If you're creating production masters for replication: ...You need a solid drive (I always suggest Plextor), quality media (Tayio Yuden is the defacto standard) and a way of checking the disc for compliancy (Block error rates, etc.). If you're making simple reference discs to listen to: What you ha...

This is another one I'd like to see... I've had the audio CD of it for years, and the band just smokes . I've heard there's bootleg versions of this floating around, and that they are going to release it one of these days, but check out the note at Amazon: "This title will be released on January 1,...

Re: eddie offord

Eddie Offord was credited as the recording engineer, which I hadn't ever noticed before. Nice touch. I always thought he was a very under-rated engineer. Absolutely! he was incredibly skilled in fact. i still love the recording and original mix (errr... in lieu of all these 5.1/2.0 remix/reissues!)...

Chris Garges Charlotte, NC no problem! happy to share! well obviously that section didn't end up in print in its entirety because its a recording magazine and not a music biz philosophy mag! imagine if there was one o...

heh

alex is a great guy- great engineer, and full of that great sarcastic 'tell it like it is' 'english humour' that can break tension in the studio.

its a fantastic well-rounded issue! and its cool to read larry's interview with alex newport. as some of you might recall, i interviewed alex for the mag back in 2000 which never ended up in print, yet it appeared in the bonus articles section of the TO website. its really cool to see how he embrace...

here is the unedited excerpt from the interview i did with producer bob ezrin for tape op magazine (from back in 2002) regarding this thread's subject matter. the following was shortened for space purposes for the print version so here is the whole thing. love him or hate him, mr. ezrin hits the nai...

i) Urge Overkill - Supersonic Storybook ii) Zeni Geva - 10 000 Light Years iii) Breeders - Pod all three of these recordings show how Steve's recording technique is, in essence, 'invisible', in that it serves the style of music at hand; much like how a great cinematographer's work functions- to serv...

i like the way it sounds- for lack of a better word at the moment, it sonically comes off as rustic to me in approach- either in the actual tracking and/or mixing. i think the latter. i think metallica was trying to get this kind of sound for their latest disc (and failed), which of course sucked an...

the other day i played the old ryko reissue disc of one of his first (if not the first) solo albums 'who came first'. its got a great home recording/demo of Let's See Action, in which of course pete t. plays all instruments.

its a fantastic record...obviously a great recording as well, given that they like good clean dynamic recordings/sounds. i found a link to download it from the their official fan site toolarmy. i'm surprised the album gout out on the internet, considering how tight they were for the previous record....

good question. i'm curious myself. hopefully they aren't brickwalled remasters, especially of the re-mixed versions with the drum triggers with 1980s drum sample styles. perhaps do some research on zz top fan sites where the hardcore fans give more than detailed thoughts and reviews of these re-rele...
