Thanks for the help people, I appreciate it. I don't think I'll have access to the Mackie unit, just the drive.
TooLoFi thanks for the offer but I'm 812 miles to the north in Seattle.

How do I get tracks off a MACKIE HDR IDE drive into DP?
I might have a chance to mix a project that was recorded on a Mackie hard disk recorder. The potential client has the IDE drives but not the Mackie anymore. I'm not sure how to get the files (wav I think) into my Mac.
Any insight anyone could give would be appreciated.

Well, you know, I probably could have swung the $100,000 fine you first mentioned, but half a million is totally going to force me to break into the piggy bank!chocolatechickenpotpie wrote:Anyway, back to the FCC... I'm just curious if anyone thinks a $500,000 fine for each instance of obscenity is a good idea. Why? Why not?

Re: The Zombies....
The Zombies are cool. I love the singles collection, not so big on O&O except a few songs. Maybe I'll throw it on and re-evaluate.
Possibly the the most underrated band from the '60s.
I could listen to Time Of the Season all day long.

Re: Ye Olde useage of click tracks
The problem is that drummers who need a click aren't good enough to play to one ("It's, like, throwing me off!") and drummers who can play to a click generally don't need one.
George Martin has been quoted as saying "Ringo, was our drum machine.", meaning that his timing was pretty darned steady.

Re: Recording on a Roland VS-1880, mixing on... what?
"I don't know why Roland insists on using proprietary formats" Because they suck, that's why. I've done it the same way as Albro Swift, 2 tracks at a time into my MOTU unit from a 1680. I actually found that the tracks sounded better going through the MOTU converters than S/PDIF. The 1680, and I ima...

I love Dry and I was also really dissapointed by Rid Of Me; I think it just trys too hard to be....I don't know, intenionally grating? It's just too transparent and affected.

I reference to compare levels, bottom end, brightness etc., not to ape anyones particular sound.
The last thing I referenced was Weezer's Pinkerton.

Re: just picked up an Art Pro VLA compressor...
"One of my fondest memories at last year's TapeOpCon was Dave Fridman saying that he used the Pro VLA on the 2-bus mix of just about everything he does. This was on the compression panel. I loved the looks of shock that went around the room! Priceless" I think everyone on that panel eventually 'fess...

What causes the click when I punch in?
Sometimes I get a click when I do a punch in (using DP3, G4, MOTU 2408MKII). Most of the time I don't but sometimes I do right where the old soundbite meets the new one. Occasionally, I can drag the edge of the old soundbite to a new spot and it will fix it, but this is rare. I don't know if it's my...

Re: Nirvana "Bleach"
Bleach wasn't recorded in a garage. It was recorded at a studio called Reciprocal Recording in the Seattle neighborhood of Ballard. I believe they had an Otari 8 track at the time which is now displayed at the EMP. Mr. Endino claimed to make $200 for himself from the project at the last TapeOp confe...
