If you had said cousin brother, I would have known he was Navajo. :D Actually, I just thought of a studio in Gallup that might work. It's run by Knifewing who has been involved in many different aspects of the Native music scene and pretty active in recording Native artists.. Not sure if he's done ...

Hey ottobot, I live in this area but I'm no pop produca. Mandolin family instruments are my thing. This is a great wasteland of no broadband, very few real studios, and generally "100 miles from nowhere" as Peter Rowan put it in a song. Albuquerque might be his best bet. I'm working with Empty Hous...

Looking for Pop producer/studio - Navajo Nation (NW Arizona)

Hello all, My wife's cousin is an aspiring pop musician. He is looking for a studio to mix, master, and add strings to a song of his. He has very little experience with the process, but has been making songs in garage band. He needs quite a bit of help as far as arrangement, vocal coaching, etc. I h...

What did you like about mixing into the multi-band? There might be some other way of getting the same magic. I actually don't enjoy using them that much, too many knobs & variables. haha When I'm recording a project, tend to mix on the way in, so there isn't as much correctioned needed. However, th...

I did see this while looking at other gear today:
Drawmer 1973

A bit more than your budget, but who knows, maybe one will come up used for less.

I can't think of anything that would be in your budget. Maybe there are some older sleeper untits - Ashley, Orban, or Valley people? You'may have better luck just using and compressor with a key input and a separate eq. Now...that's just one band at a time, but it will work for most jobs.

if it helps, I went with the Apollo 16 when I upgraded (from a BLA modded Digi 002 and RME ADI-8) and here's why I did it... - it was a single unit with 16 channels of high quality A/D/A and FW connectivity - it can do >48Khz sample rate (since no more ADAT between units) - it works with Windows 7 ...

the classic api stuff is very rad. But without the meters, the issue i'm having is trying to find that sweet spot without going too far and having to come back and try again. especially with loud transients, like drums. I see what you mean. I usually use the meters in my DAW to monitor input with t...

I'm basically starting to hate any preamp that doesn't have an output attenuator on it. I've been using 512s a lot lately, as the studio I'm doing most of my freelance stuff out of has 8 of them, and I def. like the sounds I'm getting, but it is a pain in the ass dealing with them when I'm tracking...

Thanks everyone for all the useful info! I've been playing a lot around with it. And found that my chassis [the API 8-slot] has switches in the back where I can link 2 channels. Whats kind of odd is they still set independently. I would expect changing the 1st compressors settings would obviously a...

Re: 1 inch 16 track studios?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any place still running a 1 inch 16 track machine to do some reasonably priced transfers to DAW? I mostly recorded 2" 24 track (already transferred) but have a few to move over. There only 3 reels - one for sure is 15ips (5 songs) the other 2 aren't documented on th...

Thought I'd post an update, I've decided to pair the V2 with a U87. Thanks for all the help. Also on note of 'grit' would maybe running the vocal mics through some distressors pre-tape be worth it, or should I just keep the pre-tape 'clean'. I think the most indicidive feature of soul is the overdr...
