last High Llamas album
I love it. Very different and far superior to anything they've done before. It just makes me happy each time i listen to it. How could someone now in his mid 40s get better with age?
Has anyone else listened to it? (i mean more than once in a record shop)

Re: Let It Be Naked(not an album review)
songs are cool although not as inspired as their earlier stuff.
On most tracks there's that same lethargic depressive slow feel as on post-smile Beach boys albums. You can hear there's something psychologically wrong going on.

Re: Vox AC30 or Fender Twin...
i'm a fender freak, and almost all my amps are fenders, but... i hate twin reverbs. like screwdrivers to my ears. I bought a '65 Twin Reverb RI last year, mostly because i found it for very cheap, because of its reputation and because i prefer clean to crunch (i mean you can always dirty up the sou...

Re: lap steel vs. pedal steel
Hi Raymond, friends of mine saw you play with Mojave3 in Paris 2 weeks ago, was it you?, (i missed that show very unfortunately). Since then we've been talking about Pedal steel a lot, wondering how it works, where and how to get one (VERY hard here). Anyway, can i ask you a few questions? What peda...

Re: Famous tracks recorded with ribbon mics?
Read what Bob Ohlsson (motown guy) wrote on another forum: "Wally Heider told me that Sinatra even used his handheld gold Shure 546 for everything in the studio during the mid to late '60s. A 546 was the chrome-bodied predecessor of the SM-56 which was an SM-57 with a built-in stand coupler and shoc...

Re: Universal Audio Tube Mic Preamp
derrick, from what you're describing the Great River MP-NV should be what you need. Fairly clean at workable settings, very colored when you crank it up. What makes me hesitate to buy the 610 is its price. For the same money i can get twice as many Neve 1272/1073 clones. They are different beasts i ...

Re: Soundelux u195 or aea r84 ribbon?
I've only got the R84.
Lack of extreme high end is not that much a problem, as it reacts very well to EQ. I've been using on almost everything and always get something good and full of character.
It's also great if you work only with DAW.

Re: OT: Elliott Smith has died...
A lot of people loved his music here. Beyond the obvious quality of his songs, the French press always praised his egoless personnality. His music will feel very different to us now.

Re: Recording Alone
I read somewhere that Money Mark (Beastie Boys keyboard player) who recorded his first album at home and on his own, obliged himself to accumulate each part without worrying too much about the accuracy of playing. Then, once all the parts were found and chosen, he rehearsed them for a while until he...
