Not the answer you were looking for, but does the SM58 have a little flat metal piece with a screw on it? If so you can unscrew that and flip the metal around so that the switch is permanently in the "on" position. Most Shures with on/off switches I've seen have had this. May save you some trouble.

Odd question: Piano bench height

So I've got this junky organ bench that I want to fashion into a piano bench, but it's too high. I'm planning on cutting the legs down but don't know how much to cut. What's the standard height of a piano bench from floor to the top of seat? Does it vary?

Well, I haven't played this particular bass, but I noticed that it has a short-scale neck, like a Mustang bass or a Hofner. Obviously some people like them, but they tend to sound tubbier than their 34" scale kin. They are easier to play, though, especially for guitar players

Alright, got mine working. Turns out I misread the numbers on the PCB and soldered the tube in wrong. An hour's worth of rather difficult soldering later, and it works! Looking forward to trying it out properly.

The tube isn't lighting up or getting warm. Those readings were with the mic connected, of course. I suspect the filament just isn't connected somewhere in the mic.

Well, I just finished my tube mic. I used the pre-made PCBs, but it doesn't pass any audio. I'm getting 38V on the filament supply and 107V on the B+. Please help!

There's a picture of Bob in the liner notes of the Highway 61 Revisited CD showing him playing piano and harmonica with a U67 in front of him.

http://www.royerlabs.com/photos/session_photos/wayne_shorter/WS_LA/WS_kickmic2_sm.jpg Royer recommends using one of their ribbons 8"-3' away from the head, angled 45? toward the floor. I've had success using this technique with a (much) cheaper Chinese ribbon. I've also used LDCs, but I find they d...

Fixing the percussion on my Hammond M3

So I just bought a Hammond M3. Everything works great except for the percussion. It's the same old problem, the note only triggers when you hold down a key and turn it on. I tried cleaning the percussion on/off switch with methyl hydrate, but this did nothing. It looked pretty pristine to start with...

Maybe this is a good thing. To a lot of people "warm" seems to mean "rolled-off high frequencies". Maybe with this "transparent" thing, we'll get some treble back.
