Mixing down in the Metric Halo 2882 hardware
Has anyone done it? I've been fooling around with it but haven't really been blown aways by what I've come up with lately.
Mostly I miss my UAD Precision Limiter plugins.

I wouldn't chop up a perfectly good Princeton to build this amp- fear not. I was going to buy a Princeton replacement chassis, buy or build a princeton size 1x12 combo cabinet- or maybe even a 2x8. Allen makes super overbuilt champ output transformers and overbuilt power transformers. Should be able...

Princeton Reverb crossed with a Vibro Champ
Has anyone made a princeton with just one 6v6 in the power section? I've been peering through the two schematics, and it seems you could the output of V3 on the Princeton schematic and feed that into where I have marked it on the Vibro Champ schematic (#1). Too little gain? #2 shows where I think th...

Re: Want to see music in motion? Pendulum experiment.
This made me subscribe to the RSS feed of your blog, Justin. You should update it more often. Want to see music in motion? Here's a Harvard physics experiment that also serves as an incredible visual analogy for the harmonic spectrum of sound. The effect is hypnotizing. Simple Harmonic (and non-harm...

Shared studio space in Brooklyn
I just moved to Park Slope after living for the last 15 years in Williamsburg and, coincidentally, my lease on my large but expensive studio share in Greenpoint is expiring, and I'm not really rehearsing a band anymore- at least not on a weekly basis. I'd love to be able to have room to put my recor...

Has anyone tried to build a Faraday cage? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage I looked into finding some kind of cheap conductive mesh to staple to the walls of our studio. Seems like it would be pretty easy to make, if you could keep the cost down. I was a little surprised at the price of chi...

Re: noisy jazzmasters- I have a couple of sets Curtis Novak's JM-PAF pickups as well as his JM-HC. The PAFs sound like PAFs, and I like HCs, especially in the bridge, as they sound kind of a cross between a Jazzmaster and an SG. I have, however, pulled those pickups out and replaced them with Joe Ba...

Also installed a bypass for the tone control (but still left the negative feedback in) and it is a fire breathing distortion monster, especial when I plug it into my Marshall 1x12 with a Weber ceramic Blue Dog (Vox Bulldog-ish 12" speaker, 50 watts). It's funny what a high gain sound it is, especial...

made a small, magical change to my Bronco (aka Vibro Champ)
I was hoping for something that sounded like my old BF Deluxe. I've been fooling around with a Bronco (same thing, mostly, as a Vibro Champ- just with a cooler face plate) and today swapped the 16K resistor on the tone stack (the connects the tone stack to ground) to the Fender standard 6800 (which ...

I looked at the Cowon stuff- you're right- their naming convention just confuses me. I've also heard some terrible things about them- In particular, I've heard that their android stuff is really bad. I also know most people won't take time out of their day to post something nice. The certainly will ...
