Re: King's-X Kick Drum Sound - Shure SM-91

Got an email from Michael Wagener, who did King's-X last album. He told me that he used an SM91 and a sub-kick to get their sound. I just picked up one (SM91) and I have a sub kick. Was wondering what everybody's experience was with the SM91? Any trick to placing it, or any other info, tips, etc wo...

I really don't think this sounds like this, but wasn't there some Los Lobos album that came out like, a zillion years ago, and everyone was like, "whoah! The guitars sound awesome on this! How'd you do it?" And LL was like, "actually, what we did was plug the guitars directly into the Hi-Z ins of a...

This is good! But do you guys here the actual "phasing" sound? The filter is moving. It very well might be a wha-wha. I should hook up my strat and wha and give it a go... But then again, I'm hearing that flanged sound - not the regualr flanger we're all used to hearing. I'm talking about the Electr...

This is my theory thus far:

Les Paul (neck pickup), Matchless amp, Electric-Mistress with sweep-lock on.

For the gurgly, phasey, effect, not sure. Sounds like a talk-box with slow mouth motion, but who knows.... This is where ya'll come in, help me figure this out!

does anyone else think puppets sounds a little, i dunno, weird? You gotta remember, there was NO ease of sharing info like there is today. No TapeOP.com. what was happening in LA or NY wasn't happening in Denmark. How would anyone know? Each album was an experimental expression of the guy making it...

AKG D12 - needs capsule (for parts)

Grill in perfect condition, as well as the plastic trim-ring. Sme for the cable. The capsule seems to have finally gone.

$100 takes it.

Los Lobos - Blue Moonlight Guitar Solo Tone?

does anyone know what makes the tone in this solo? first, there is a tubular guitar tone, then it sounds like it's sent through some kind of phasey, talk-boxy effect.

Here it is:

Any info would be appreciated.

I'm not sure how "Metallica/Puppets"-specific the information is, but I've seen a pretty interesting series of videos with Michael Wagenor in the studio. Here's a link to one that I could find... Google or YouTube the others and you should be good to go: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/drums/404535-...
