Affordable "Vintage " Midi key/synth
Hey all! Trying to source a versatile midi keyboard with usable Wurly/Rhodes/B3/synth sounds. I'll be running that through amps/preamps/processing to get suitable dirt/vibe. Zombies/Stranglers/Sonics/Stranglers/60's. I'll also be using it with my DAW and soft synths, etc. I'm primarily a guitarist/ba...

A.David.MacKinnon wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 8:00 pmNew furnace is in. It's so quiet! Before moving the studio to the garage I spent a few years working out of the basement (next to the old clunker). Should have replaced it back then. I wouldn't have had to shut the heat off every time I wanted to do some work.
Right On! Good to hear!

Does a furnace count? If so....... A new furnace!!!! Came home to a cold house. Apparently vintage is not a word that carries good connotations when you're talking HVAC. Get the furnace. As a Minnesotan- Get the furnace. Mic's will become more affordable as things get colder. I say this because I h...

Radio Shack Pzm's have finally come down on Ebay. They cost $43 in 1982,now they're cheaper than that. Solder on a 9V connector, you're golden, and you can tape them on any surface.

Re: Your go-to acoustic guitar verb
I have a small room (14'x17',12 ' ceiling),so when im tracking acoustic,I use an sdc and a ribbon as close together as possible, halfway between 12th fret and soundhole. Then i gauge the tempo of the song,as well as the prominence/role of the acoustic in the song. This helps decide how "honest" it's ...

Re: Choosing drum overheads for small room
Looked at your picture again, and I guess I would ask -what vibe are you looking for? Kick is deep, toms are shallow. You'll get a lot of attack, and not a lot of THUD/BODY -except on kick. Depends on what tone you're looking for. Fast Attacky? Motown? 70's Carol King/Pillowy? Get some Radio Shack PZM'...

Re: Choosing drum overheads for small room
Or-Tape a PZM on the wall behind drummer at ear height, and space 2 omnis on the floor in a triangle as far apart as you can. What's the ceiling height like? Will other people be playing at the same time?

Re: Choosing drum overheads for small room
I'd close the curtains, put the gobos on the walls behind. Put an X/Y pair,or a stereo mic (Cascade x-15,Shure VP-88,anything) above and just behind drummers head, pointed across top of drummers head at an angle pointed down,so at backside it gets the kit,and what the drummers hearing, and towards fron...
