Re: Jingles that haunt you....
"I'm a Wheel Watcher" is really just a slightly changed version of The O'kaysions' "I'm a Girl Watcher".
Not exactly a jingle, but I really miss that pre-movie intro music on HBO from the 80s(and maybe into the 90s). So epic.

Re: Converting a Guitar to Fretless
I did this with a Squier Bullet when I was 15. Still have it. Pulled out w/ needle nose pliers and filled with wood putty and sanded the hell out of it. Tuned it to an open chord that sounded good and played drones with single note sliding leads over it. Sounds sitaresque. Can be cool for certain sp...

Re: Some questions about summing...I don't get it
There is no secret about anything. If people would get off their lazy ass, read books, research papers and do their own tests it's easy to learn. But no, people want to beleive the myths and rumour sbecause they seem more spectacular. It's easy to read a forum and accept something that matches with...

Re: Your favorite slide guitar solo
"Gimme Back My Wig" - Hound Dog Taylor = raw. I think he had 6 fingers on one hand. Duane's version of King Curtis' "Soul Serenade" kicks ass. "Buena" slide bass by Morphine is sweet, but not really a solo. I love every bit of slide Ry does with the Cuban projects. Danny Gatton's beer bottle slide s...

Re: Awkward, personal, on-topic question.
I like my Blueberry on almost any singer, female or male, though I have never tried it on any super deep voices(sounds like it'll be a while before he gets there anyway). For smooth stuff, this mic always works for me. Low is rolled off a bit and little proximity effect for a cardioid. Try one out i...

Re: Need advice on a good pair of pres to follow my Folcrom.
I have an OSA MP1-L that to my ears has big bass, solid mids, and nice clear highs, but not as crystal highs as some less colored pres out there. I did get this from Atlas, so I am slightly biased. It suspect these would be good for summing. The thing about summing, however is that what you think mig...

Re: A discussion of DFA bass sounds (House of JealousLovers
I love the bass sound in their remix of Le Tigre's "Deceptacon". I think it's very similar to the ones you mentioned. Don't know what they do though. It seems like the same player on a lot of that stuff - do you know who it is? Tim or James or someone else? Those guys definitely have a signature sou...

AES made me aroused.
Saw lots of cool new things, most of which I can't afford. Met Larry and some other folks I've only known before through the internets which was very nice. I saw so much cool stuff that I won't have, when I left I felt invigorated that I can still make music I like without all that shit. Sure, I sti...

Re: Old school hip hop
There would certainly be a difference in sound tracking to tape vs. mixing to tape. What exactly would depend on the machine, how hard you hit the tape, and many other factors. I've done both and I would say hitting tape while tracking gave me better results, but again, there's a ton of factors to c...

Re: REAMPING: What is the main reason you REAMP???
But a reamp can be used for chambering.
I've used it to dial in the tone better and rerecord, often discarding the original.
Joel- what is the snare triggering thing you mentioned? What is triggering/getting triggered?
