That reminds me of this fun video. I guess Angelo Badalament is the composer and the guy you're talking about played the synth part? Hmmmm.

Anyway, it's pretty entertaining: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwvSFOEfHJE

Yeah, That's what I've been doing already because I'm too lazy to investigate a different method. But you're adding an unnecessary conversion of the dry track. My real question was, is latency not always the same? (thinking in terms of my Radar II here. But it should apply to DAW's too as long as I ...

Good discussion! Randyman, I don't know if I get what you're saying. What you describe in that last paragraph is what I've been doing, that is, passing the dry track out and back into the converters allowing it to align with the processed parallel track. In the first paragraph though, are you saying...

Need a tape machine tech in Portland OR

I've had some trouble trying to find someone to work on my tape machines here. I have three of them with issues, a Tascam 58, an Otari MX5050 2 track and a Ampex 440 machine. If anyone knows of someone that can do a good job (Allen Garren unfortunately won't get back to me) I'd really appreciate kno...

Concerning convenience, I think vinyl is a pretty convenient home format, so is CD for that matter. The music is there in front of you. All you have to do is pop it in and go. I bet I can get Dark Side going on vinyl quicker than you can open itunes, dig it up, and find the appropriate cable to jack...

Yeah, there's no rules. Just eq it. If you're compressing it too, it'll help the compressor, as there's a lot of energy in the low end that will confuse the compressor. But, make sure that the boominess you're hearing isn't actually up too far into the low mids. If it's a very sparse arrangement, th...

A long time ago I did what I thought was as close an A/B listening test as I could muster, comparing channels (in my 16 channel PM1000) with a couple different kinds of Nichicons and a couple different Panasonic types, and I came away liking the Nichicon PW series. FWIW. . . . .

I've done that a couple times (with 2 power one supplies) for the bi polar rails. Both times I ended up going back to the original power supplies (not because the power one's didn't make it sound better) but because they always hum (mechanically in the room) like a mofo and I couldn't figure out how...

Jeeeeez. He'll probably get that much, you watch. Somebody on gearslutz will be all slobbering over it and have the cash to just go for it I bet. What a salesman. When you weigh the amount of time it takes to learn to solder (a few hours at the most?) vs. the amount of time it takes to make $12,000 ...

Naw, man it's the tape (I think!) I experienced something very similar. That company turned out to be pretty cool, and refunded my order. I even talked to the head guy on the phone for awhile and he seemed pretty genuine. He said he had never experienced anybody complaining about that particular tap...

I like 57's okay for lots of stuff, but since they're the same price as 58's nowadays I don't see why a 58 isn't better. It sounds very close, but a little less harsh on vocals.

This is sort of a funny one. I did this song recently where my friend and I tracked drums/guitar and vocals at the same time. I hate using headphones so I had a vocal monitor (too close to the drums) In my enthusiasm and faux confidence I remember saying something like, "it doesn't matter 'cause I'm...
