Awesome,
Thanks for that link! Sounds like he thinks replacing those chips was a worthwhile thing to do. I'll be following that.

Hey guys, Thanks a bunch for the info. Scum, So, are you talking about using something like this adaptor and some DIP chips? http://cimarrontechnology.com/so8dip8tosiladapterpn060301.aspx I'd definitely be into giving it a shot if I knew exactly which chip/s wouldn't require a power supply upgrade a...

Reccomend litte 10 watt amp for Vidsonix Ghost transducer?
I finally got my plate reverb up and going. It's an old Ecoplate II. I screwed around with the amp for a long time, not succeeding in resurrecting it. I blew the voice coil in the driver too, and was never able to get a new one straight again afterwards. So I was looking for some replacements on bot...

How to figure out which caps are in the signal path?
This might be sort of an obvious thing for more experienced people, but I wonder if someone could help me understand which caps are in the signal path of my console's input strips? Here is the schematic: http://www.rylandbouchard.com/files/PM2000-Schematics.pdf The input strip circuit for the PM2000...

I think the D to A and the little amp in iphones/pods etc is just super sucky. There's not anything wrong (for the most part) with driving a cd/cassette etc level line in on a receiver with a headphone out. It's just the sound of the unit that bugs. Makes me think 320 mbps mp3's aren't that bad real...

Man, good luck. Long road. There's no one source to figure that stuff out of course. I love the same musicians you mentioned and I love tape and tubes and transformers. But the real magic shit you already know. "I love music that's got feeling, and I want to learn how to capture a musical moment." T...

Holy Crap. Check out this Ampex tube console in Tacoma WA
http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/msg/4841245978.html Not mine, and I'm unsure if 350 electronics are the best thing to be making a console out of, but makes me wonder. It sure looks rad. And a pretty good price if it sounds good. People seem to charge similar prices for 4X1 RCA tube mixers on ebay ...

Hey, I'm pretty sure I have that jack in my parts. I think I have some fader caps too. Probably not 9, but some anyway. You can have 'em for postage. (probably 5 bucks or something) BUT, give me a week or two to get them out to you. I'm not all that fast at mailing stuff. Send me a PM and we'll do t...

Free was Paul Rodgers? I didn't realize that. This is a bit off topic, but one thing I've noticed when recording live (in myself) as well as other musicians is that mistakes are often not the worst part of a performance that includes a mistake. The worst part is what you play after the mistake while...

Yeah, I've seen some pretty bad sounding shows at the Crystal as well. Yo La Tengo sounded horrible when I saw them. Bummer. That drinking/non drinking split is ridiculous. If they were going to do that, they should just do it right up the middle instead of forcing the drinkers way off the front in ...

Nick, Obviously I have to do electronic alignment, bias, etc. I have done this many times and am pretty good at it. My instinct is that I'll have to also adjust the transport and possibly the head height just because of how the tape feels when being fast wound and played. But I didn't really know. I...

Adjust transport for ATR tape?
Hey folks, Haven't been able to figure out much about this. I have a Tascam 58 8 track. After a bunch of upgrades to my machine, and some tests and critical listening comparing tape, I'm gonna start using ATR tape I think. Problem is, it's thick. And my transport just seems to be working harder than...

You guys ever listen to Dead Moon? I'll listen to sloppy bands all day long that recorded a good song all together at the same moment. I don't give a fuck about the room, the bleed or the slop, unless it's so ridiculous that they're flipping the beat or something. There are so many great sloppy bands...

Yeah, it's been on there a few days.
Here's some tape though if you're into planning ahead: http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/msg/4740079939.html
I don't know how well 457 holds up though.
