Re: Any "affordable" monitors with good low end?

jeff- yeah the tuned reference Events looked interesting, they're pretty low dough aren't they? 500 bucks or something? i think the 20/20s are fine for the price, i'm just really burnt out on them. they sound ok at low volumes, but the high end gets painful when i have it loud. did you find the TR8 ...

Any "affordable" monitors with good low end?

Hi y'all, So i've been mixing on event 20/20s for a couple years now. i certainly don't love them, but i'm used to them and can deal. except for the low end. i feel like i constantly get burnt on the 40-60hz region, even though i know to be conservative with that area. it's like a couple db too much...

Re: Loveless is quiet...and loud

jason, hey, you're talkin about me! i'd be interested to see how it looks on the computer. i betcha it's only peaking at like -3...-4 or so. if you have time to check it out that'd be cool. i don't know anything about the mastering, although it's always seemed to me like it was a pretty quickie mast...

Re: Strangest Studio Techniques U Ever Used?

worth mentioning also, is how LOUD that record is. dave and relative volume-wise, loveless and at action park are amongst the quietest cds i own. actually all the shellac records are quiet. and they sound so good when you crank 'em. would be nice if having the quietest record became the new cool th...

Re: AKG mics

Even the C12VR, yuck, what a boxy sounding mic. dave well now, dave, you shouldn't expect so much from a $5,000 mic :P i got to check one out and was really disappointed. it was all low mid "flubba". i didn't like the new 414uls either. i do, however, swear by my c33e for overheads. anybody know th...

Re: Huge, incredible sounding records.

'sweet tea' is filthy ! i had the same response as you. i don't think there's a mic within a couple feet of anything on that record... i didn't even know tchad blake did a sheryl crow record  but all the soul coughing stuff he did is pretty huge sounding IMO. especially the last one, el oso. ...

Re: wicked farleys' "sentinel and enterprise"

yer not kidding! i'm still not sure how the drummer DOES that...wheaties maybe? -paul m. i play with him in The Ivory Coast (our singer, jay, was the one who told you "they're REALLY STONED"...). he's a badass. there's been plenty of times at practice when he'll just do something and i'll be lookin...

Re: Strangest Studio Techniques U Ever Used?

markpar, thanks! somebody else mentioned the Sundays thing too. i don't really know them so i'll take yr word for it :D there's no backwards stuff on that song. it's the snare track thru an old mxr limiter pedal. that's all it does, but it does that well! should be a review in the next issue. anyway...

Re: Strangest Studio Techniques U Ever Used?

Hi y'all, i'm killing time at the day job, so please excuse my long-windedness. I was helping my friends the Common Cold with the recording of their latest, "Bleep Bleep Bloop". I had them all go out in the room and make something up while i started and stopped the 16 track at random. I would record...

Re: wicked farleys' "sentinel and enterprise"

mr ark, a great record! i THINK, but could be 100% wrong, that it was tracked to tape and then dumped to protools and mixed there. certainly it was tracked to tape, it's the protools part i'm unsure about, but i seem to remember talk of that. not that that has anything to do with the unique drum sou...
