His Dolby A metering should help him make sure of that. IF he's calibrated properly, then his signal will be going in at unity gain to the noise reduction unit. The 520 nwb calibration at the tape machine merely means that the signal coming from the Dolby is recorded at that level. The Dolby meteri...

Yeah, seems I'm stuck with this bad behavior. Maybe I should just give mine to Jeff? I LOVE the things it does, and all I do is just turn knobs without looking until it sounds cool! Piano I have done, toms next. Did whole mixes too. Awesome. Ship to: Third Monk Records 320 Miller Avenue, Suite 170 ...

One thing to remember when using any noise reduction system is that any inaccuracies in your analog recording device will be magnified by the noise reduction system. If you slam levels into tape, any HF compression from tape saturation will be exaggerated. If you're working at 520 nW/m, keep your p...

Re: Flipping phase...
Question: If I have, let's say, a single vocal track. It's the only thing I have recorded. There is nothing to cancel, etc. If I flip the phase, will it change the sound of the individual track? I understand that phase flipping can affect the way a track cancels/interacts with other signals, but wh...

I'm not sure why someone would be using a transcription programming for audio recording, but... Live and learn. Weird, huh? Here's why- it's sort of choir music. This is an ensemble of Indian singers doing Bollywood and Western songs- all acapella. All songs are broken down in to 4 parts- Bass/Teno...

So we found a workaround to the problem that doesn't require a Midi lock with Pro Tools and Finale. The client saved the Finale session as midi data and then opened the midi file with Garageband. He then rendered audio from that program. Tempo is rock solid and Grids to Pro Tools with no problem. Th...

I love how right after the take is done, it's done. When they listen to the playback there was nothing left to be done. An engineer's work was all done well before take one. Yep, live mix to two-track. And if you listen to 'Sketches of Spain' by Miles Davis, you'll still wish they turned that damn ...

Re: Neve 33609 Limiter/Compressor power down/up question
We recently got a Neve 33609 Limiter/Compressor and love it. My issue is that when we power it down at night and then power back up the stereo/mono and bypass/in switches revert to bypass and mono! I now there are jumpers/switches inside for the rear panel thing, but I don't think they will change ...

You should just silence the crowd: www.stageit.com Good lord. :( And this is where we are headed. I just had an artist say to me, "Yeah, but I like reacting to crowd reaction when we play and seeing people's faces." I re-assured him and said, "Well, likely there will be some Skype-like program or a...
