Re: pink floyd live at pompeii what mics were used?

You are correct. Sennheiser MD409's for vocal mics. The older ones with the pivot on the stand mount. I can not remember what drum mics were used, I will have to watch it again. The only lame thing was the footage added of the space shuttle taking off and the computer animation. It was suposed to be...

Re: opamp substitution list

There has been discussions about this on the 3D Audio Forum. Many who have tried said that upgrading to Burr Brown op amps made a huge difference. There is a company that does it as a mod to Soundcraft Ghost consoles with great success in sonic improvement.

Re: Stephen Malkmus' Amp

If you want a clean sounding amp then get a Hiwatt. Look for an older model with less gain. Something made under the Hylight era ( Hylight was a manufacturer for Hiwatt until about 1982 when Biacrown took over Hiwatt. The Biacrown models are a bit gainier but still super clean if you want it) The 50...

Re: Vintech Dual 72 or Universal Audio 2108 or something els

I liked the 2108 so much I bought two. It rocks on kick, snare, bass amps, ect. It is very good and has a punchy tone perfect for rock. It is no one trick pony though. It sounds great on everything. I have not tried it on vox yet. I have not heard the Vintech but I bet it sounds good too, although I...

Re: Another Company that "gets it"

what most companies don't get is that if they piss you off, you are never going to even think of their products ever again. Audio Technica gave you a "hook up" so you are a fan of AT for life. That is great customer service. Just don't try asking Soundelux for anything. I had problems with a new ife...

Re: Cheesy pro audio magazine ads

Although the Liquid Channel was reviewed in Tape OP, I can still hate the ad. I have nothing against Focusrite or Millenia whos ads I dislike. I also hate the quotes placed in ads by users in the pro audio community. Ones like "I have used this brand X pre-amp on every sesion, how did I ever get alo...

Re: Cheesy pro audio magazine ads

I agree about the Liquid Channel ad. it seems like they are trying to sell a $3500 piece of gear to a 12 year old kid. What the hell is "splash" supposed to mean. Wow, how long did it take those guys to come up with that. Is that the sound of me spending $3500 or is that sound of me putting cold wat...

I sure wish those bands would actually tour Canada and not a pretend tour that just includes Toronto and Vancouver. We like music in Saskatchewan too! To those of you who have tickets for the Hot Snakes, you are a bunch of lucky buggers.

Re: A story to make you all cry

You just have to phone the old radio and tv stations and see if they are selling off any of thier old tape machines and analog gear. Most if not all have all switched to digital, but the stations in the small cities and towns still have tape machines, probably unused, but they are still there cloggi...

Re: A story to make you all cry

The airport in my city auctioned off 6 UREI 1176 comps when they upgraded their pa system. My friend got them for $50 Canadian a piece. He sold a consecutive pair on ebay foor about $2600 US and has two which he never uses and the other two are used as parts. That made me cry. another friend of mine...

Re: In Search of a Snare!

Usually a thicker shelled snare is more sensitive no? I have an old 14x8 18 ply maple Tama that kills.I paid $300 Cdn for it and it sounds better than my $1000 Ayotte custom made snare. Go figure. I can hit it with my finger and it can be heard very well. Very sensitive. It has lots of girth if you ...

Re: Just got the new Q And Not U album. wow! New Hot Snakes

Oddly enough, I was thinking these guys were due for an album not two nights ago. I read the post and went and bought the album an hour ago. This album is excellent. It is different from the others in the fact that it has a lot more hooks in it, but it kicks you in the ace from start to finish. They...

Re: Where to buy a Oktava ribbon?

try an old Oktava ML16. You can find them on ebay for about $600. They are worth it. Lots of sparkle, great on acoustic instruments. I put it up against an AEA R84 and it held its own. I would not recommend it for loud electric guitar, it kind of farts out. It needs a ton of gain though, at least 70...
