That's too bad they have been pulled off YouTube. We'd better save them before they are gone forever.

So how do you save streaming video?

I'm unaware that high humidity is good for anything. I've always heard that pretty much everything stores and lasts better in low humidity conditions but maybe you have information to the contrary. But whatever you do please don't get an ionizer. The ions combine with normal household chemicals to c...

I love my Presonus MP20, you can pick them up for about 350 used, and its two channels!
+1 on the MP20. If you upgrade the opamps to Burr Brown OPA627A's this preamp is absolutely killer. It is very clear, detailed, fast, and clean. The parts cost less than $100 and you can easily do it yourself.

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered a Blue Ball and Kick Ball. I just can't pass up cool looking $50 microphones.

I was recording some rain last night because, well it was raining, I had drank too much coffee, and it was otherwise relatively quiet for Oakland. Interesting test except that it won't be coffee that I'm drinking. Here in Portland we are connoisseurs of rain so I could try it on light sprinkly rain...

Im about to change my rate schedule to match 8th_note: Geez, I guess I better check in with this forum more often. It's funny that my website got mentioned because I had pretty much forgotten about it. I haven't updated that site in a couple years and I guess I better pay some atttention to it. I r...

Rod, you just solved an ongoing mystery in my studio. I have been having random phase flipping issues forever. I thought it was my cables and I even checked them all. It was driving me crazy. I use the +4/-10 buttons frequently for gain staging but I never suspected that they could be the problem. O...

I have two of these exact microphones and they are used on every session. The most common use is as drum overheads. They have a smooth, unhyped response and they just sound very natural to my ears. I've used them to record drums, trombone, acoustic guitar, and taiko drums. They've worked well on eve...

The fact that you're asking the question is a good sign. I've done this for six years as a hobby (I record 5 or 6 projects a year) and I can't see any way to make a living if I tried to do it full time. I make enough money to pay for my gear and that's about it. Here's a few points that might provid...

Most of the time I manually gate the toms using volume envelopes. Maybe I just never learned how to really use gates or maybe they just inherently don't work that well. I certainly don't have high quality gates like Chris is talking about. The tom sound is usually pretty important in the stuff I rec...

I just got a 500 gig Western Digital Mybook firewire/usb external and it's running fine. Just make sure the drive is 7200 rpm and that it has firewire capability. There was a thread on one of the forums not too long ago where people shared their experiences with hard drives and Western Digital seems...

You will get excellent bang for the buck with a used Adcom GFA 555 or GFA 545. These are classic amps and are commonly available on ebay and other used markets.

Of course you can hear the difference, man. Anything you do will affect the end result, just as anything you use in the process of recording will have a positive or negative [subjectively, or course] effect on the finished product. I guess I didn't phrase my question very well. Let me start by sayi...

I'm currently buying the parts for a new DAW computer. I'm trying to get the best price/performance ratio and here's what I've come up with: Processor: I'm going with an AMD X2 6000 dual core. These are pretty darn fast and quite reasonable in price. Motherboard: ASUS M2NPV-VM. This board has the NV...

If the thing makes that much improvement I could see how it would be worth the money. The question I have, however, is if the difference will translate into a better sound of a mixed and mastered CD - or even the raw tracks for that matter. If you recorded tracks with your standard clock and another...
