Topic: Switch from Vegas to Sonar (?) what do you think(?)

I was looking at Reaper. The price is certainly right. I don't know if it can match my work-flow. (Maybe Sonar can't either). I like to have all my tracks placed vertically (every software does this), then routed through buses placed horizontally at the bottom of the screen. This way I sum parts of ...

I've found mic'ing classical instruments to be shockingly easy. Maybe because I seldom get to do it, so everything sounds good to me. You could probably use a lot of different mics but it's hard to go wrong with a Large Diaphragm Condenser. I would start with one a foot or two away, out of the way o...

Sorry to hijack....

What is the cable theory answer for speaker cables?

Why have an unshielded cable? Why don't we use balanced lines: TRS, XLR for everything?

Huh, Vegas 9 lets you slide audio where ever you want huh? Well that's half my motivation for switching software. I guess if Vegas costs half as much I'll upgrade, survey says.... $600.00 Nope! I think Sonar is $300. I still need to do the demo and record a multi track song and mix the pants off of ...

Nice. The hype that thing has gotten as a drum squasher is very true. I actually like it on vocals and snare drum too. Not as transparent as my DBX 160 but I use it to be 'not transparent'. That limiter section can crush stuff.

Use regular insulation.

Install your own drywall. It's really not that hard, and you'll feel good looking at a room you built. Just rent a drywall lift for your ceiling.

Just scored my second AT 4033 to fill out my utility mic selection. I got it for only $130, used of course.

Yeah, I've been using Silenseal on my ceiling, I'm beefing it up with drywall and insulation before I put up a resilient channel. That stuff is gross and messy, but it works well, and it's no more messy than any other giant tube of caulk. But my real question was: do you have to leave space between ...

The thing I've learned about Glyn Johns is that it's ok to cheat on this technique. Unless I'm playing the drums I throw up some tom mics and start playback/mixing with those tracks muted, if there is an issue on a fill, or needing more tom beef, I start sliding in the close mics. You still get a st...

I bought an SM7. I might check out the PR40 at some point. I also found my PR30 is a decent tom mic. Not selling it yet. But back to my original idea, how the hell does a company put two completely difference charts for the same product on their website, when it is supposed to be 'science'. Doesn't ...

+1 on individual pedals. How many effects do you really need? Do you need two hundred different sounds? The way I figure it is think of each that you need, and then get the best pedal for that effect. In my case I needed an overdrive, a delay, a fuzz, an EQ, and a tuner. We live in an era where one ...

Wait, so you're saying those screws are better because they penetrate the channel and screw into it, as opposed to pushing it back? Another question: I understand that when you have an RC for ceiling only you don't want the drywall to butt up against the walls because that would eliminate some of th...

That's a pretty positive round of opinions. Now if I can just pick a chunk of time where I'm not working with people on projects already started on Vegas, so I can do a dummy demo of myself and put the Sonar demo through its paces. I am SOOOO into the idea of being able to print outboard effects wit...

This is one mic application where I am the most anti-intellectual. Of course any choice will have a different effect, but they all seem to pretty well get that 'roomy' sound to mix in pretty easy. I feel like you could throw an SM57 on the floor over a dozen feet away, I feel like you could hang a c...
