I need to prime my rather shitty computer for some recording.I need to know how to tweak windows to free up as much power as I can get. Anyone have any suggestions?

I know this is true, but is it up and running yet? And is it worth getting a Mac Book Pro and putting windows on it? Or is it going to run the same as a normal laptop running Windows? I have my reasons for wanting to do this.

I am having problems with being able to play 16 uneffected tracks at a time without system hicups. My system is running at 1.33 ghz and 960 mb of ram there is nothing on it but tracktion, windows, and plug ins. Can anyone help me resovle this awful problem?

I have one these Gold standard series amps from bogen does anyone know anything about it's mic pres? I'm sure it isn't used for recording and maybe i'm the only one who has thought about it. Maybe know one has even heard of this thing I don't even know how I got it.

My room is set up great for mixing. We spent a month setting it up with an acoustics guy and we tested with his monitors. I don't have alot of cash but something that won't heart my ears would be great.
