I switch between a Tascam FW1884 and a MOTU Ultralite. I've tried both Jack and Soundflower and just cant' seem to get the hang of either. The routing baffles me.

Ugh. Apparently it needs to run through Jack. I have never been able to figure that program out. (I know, I don't know Jack).

I would suggest taping off the pickups too -- they do attract the little filings that the steel wool sheds.

For just recording quick sketches I use the FourTrack app on my iPhone. I can then transfer to my computer if I want to use those tracks as the base of a project.
