Yamaha MC2404 Mixer $300

24 channel. 4 sub mixes, stereo out, 2 monitor sends, 2 auxillary sends. Good condition. Can be used for recording, live sound, or even a dedicated headphone mixer. The pres and eqs sound better than newer consoles out like Behringer, Mackie-not as harsh sounding. I need to make room for an Amek Big...

I just got a MIJ Epiphone FT-350 from '74, with a spruce top and rosewood back and sides, not to be confused with the version with maple back and sides. It has a pretty balanced tone, it's solid, and sounds great strummed. Kind of reminds me of a 70s style Martin. I don't know, the newer Martins wit...

Found on Craigslist Los Angeles:EMT 140-$475

EMT 140 Plate

I just found this right now. I thought I'd pass them along, since I can't afford either of these

I just bought a new console. Damn, that EMT 140 would have sure been pretty through the aux send.

I love his rant on headphones. "The Sony's [7609s]; these are the professionals; these are the bad boys right here. These things are clean, light, big sound, it's the only way to go. They're the most expensive at Guitar Center - I think, or close to it. And umm...these are really good. Go ahead and ...

Couldn't you also take out output tubes instead of having a plate. I sometimes do this with my Bassman Ten and I have a friend who does the same with a Twin Reverb. From what I've heard it doesn't harm the amp. Does anyone else do this regularly?

Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah, I forgot about the gain issue with the tubes. Actually now that I think about it, 12AY7s might not be such a good idea since I like to use the VLA on acoustic guitars which are sometimes really soft.

Choosing new PRO VLA Tubes

I noticed the problem of one of the channels in my beloved PRO VLA is running -6dB lower than it should. Therefore, I have decided to change the tubes, but I'm not sure exactly what to get. Right now, I mostly use the PRO VLA for vocals, but sometimes I like to run a kick drum, snare, or keyboard-pr...

Things learned while recording and mixing new project: 1. Electric guitars recorded with stereo SDCs can sound huge when combined with a ribbon and a good room. Oh yeah an AC30 cranked to 7 helps as well. 2. Mixing at low volumes is a good thing. 3.SM57s are not completely useless, but that th...

DIN to XLR on Telefunken TD-300

I just bought a Telefunken TD-300, an old reporter's field mic, and looks pretty interesting. But the problem it has a DIN connector, I've been trying to mess around with it, but so far pretty unsuccessful. All I've managed is some sound when tapping on the grill, but the diaphragm picks up no sound...

I have to second the JBL Control One monitors. I love those little things. Although they're so small they'll sound a lot better with a sub. They sound really crisp without being harsh, which imo in what the m-audio monitors suffer from.

Lately I've gone a little nuts on Ebay, at least for myself. In the last month I've gotten: Symetrix 501 Comp/Limiter Blue Mouse Pork Pie Maple Snare Vented In the mail: Telefunken TD300 - it could be crappy, but for $50 I thought the risk was worth it. By the way...the mouse, it seems to be pretty ...
