If you're getting a DI for recording purposes, you should just get the JDI. In the grand scheme of things it's not that expensive, it sounds great, and it will last forever.

same here

BTW, there's schematics on the Jensen site for building a DI that's almost identical to the JDI.

Personally I'd go with the G5. It'll be cheaper, it's still plenty powerful, and nothing works on the Intel Macs as of yet.

Whoa. That's a pretty vague question there. Check out the Digidesign Technical White Papers (top left corner) for some good articles on the ProTools 48bit Mixer & Mixing in the box. As far as summing goes, most agree that in PT's it's subpar and prefer to sum their mixes using other methods. Routing...

I believe you can just create tempo/meter changes along the bars/beats timeline that will change the grid and then the click will follow the grid.

Guerilla recording! Gotta love it! :D

I've got a decent amount of money invested into some good gear, but I'm always fond of finding cheap crap at garage sales/thrift stores and putting it to use.

CPU speed is more important to most plugins. RAM will be more useful for apps such as software samplers/synths.

That said you could still benefit from installing some more RAM, especially when it's as cheap as it is. 256k just doesn't cut it, try to upgrade to about 1Gig if you can afford it.

Re: expanding pro tools?

So in adding another 8 inputs to my 002 rac it seems that I could just get a cheap used 8 track DTRS machine like a tascam DA-88 and use it's lightpipe out for 8 more chanels of A/D conversion into the pro tools 002 light pipe in. Also the Mackie onyx seems like an option. I have a prejudice agains...

Anyone know if there is more AUX's too? You mean busses? I believe there's no limit on how many aux tracks you can create. With the release of PTLE 7 digidesign upped the number of internal busses to 32 and as far as I know that isn't changing at all with this new 7.1 release. With the release of 7...

48 tracks in PTLE & MP

http://digidesign.com/news/details.cfm?story_id=4219&localonly=N Has anybody started a thread on this yet? If so I can't seem to find it. Anyways 48 mono or stereo tracks are now available in PTLE & MP via the Music Production Toolkit ($495). It's not quite clear how this all works exactly, but it's...
