Re: guitars twang, drums thump, bass booms, keys buzz...

the songwriting is cool, and the songs have a very fun/late 60's feel. It even sounds that old. Not sure if you were going for the retro sound production, but there's a big eq hole in the stuff..like your control is exaggerating low frequencies.
BUT, if done as a theme, kick ass

Re: Recording Vocals

I'd be careful telling people compression is absolutely necessary. Proper mic technique (by the signer) should compensate for 90% of any dynamic changes in the song. Use copmpression to prevent clipping, at most. Compress post tape if you want an effect. I'd say invest in a pop filter, 3 or 4 inches...

Re: Alesis Masterlink or PC mastering

The studio I worked at laid off final mixes through an Apogee PSX-100 2ch converter. The A/D converters on the Masterlink are not really that great...AB'ing the two was remarkable. Also, the comp/limit and eq on the Link are limited. You can trim the beginning and end points, but cannot undo those e...

Re: My first 2", 24 track recordings!

I disagree. The second one had way more character and inherent interest. Not sure if this is representative of your sound, which I think you'd want a first song to convey, but i love 7/8, so I'm down with Ichabod

Re: An idea: TAPEOP INTERNET RADIO

(From My post on Clear Channel....beat me to it!) We seem to be bent on de-evolution of radio, back to what it used to be before corporate conglomeration. Isn't it a bit narrow to fight over such a limited and finite medium? Nobody seems to wonder why internet radio, after 10 or 15 years, still soun...

Re: Excellent Gospel music recommendations?

Doug Williams' new CD "When Mercy Found Me" is great. More modern gospel, but great musicianship and production. Check some of the other Blackberry Records releases.

Tell me about the Altec 1609 C amps, please!

There are two being used at work to power ceiling speakers in conference rooms. I may get a crack at them, but don't know anything about them. Thoughts??? :?:

Re: Not 1176, LA2A, or distressor

No metion yet of the GML 8900. The most transparent compressor I've ever heard..in my limited experince. Outstanding on vocals, bass, with control over parameters I didn't know existed.

Re: Why I like Guitar Center

I have one experience with GC and it was positive..I think every commisioned employee in the store on a busy Saturday asked if I needed anything. Of course I bought nothing. But might.

This is Chicago. Anybody have Chicago GC impressions??
