I HATE playing with bands on the road who are selling they're discs for like $8-10 and they're CDR's in paper sleeves with the band name written in marker... I'll trade our CD with anybody to get it out there, but I feel cheated when I hand over a nice professional-looking wrapped CD for a CDR in a...

On Tuesday I was fixing a mix for a buttnut who decided to totally ignore all my printed instructions on how to prep tracks & what kind of documentation to include. The files were named "audio 01, 02 etc" but at least he sent a track sheet & it was only 14 or 15 tracks...but...but... He zipped the f...

You can chain multiple boxes together...one after another, I think 5 or 6 is the max & each one powers two sets of cans. I twisted the wires up into pairs and mounted all the boxes on dedicrated round base mic stands to keep it tidy. The only real problem was getting runs into the iso booths, having...

Spending the money on a passive system makes more sense then going active IMO. As you get more cash/tastes change/things blow up you can either keep the amp or the monitors and replace whichever piece is the weak link without ditching everything. For under $400 the Tannoy Reveals aren't too shabby &...

I like digipaks for the extra artwork & all, but some companies cut them large, bigger then a standard jewel case and those discs won't fit into CD racks 'cause they're like 1/16" bigger in all directions. That's pretty annoying! If you want to push this project ahead as a career thing, then order t...

Actually, the big hurdle has been filling the band positions, as the band has no interest in playing themselves. The challenge has been whether to find actors that play an instrument (preferably poorly), or hack musicians who don't really need to act to pull off the role. We've decided on the latte...

Those Fender Hot Rod's have a pretty weak dirt channel. Overcompressed, flabby, muddy and overall, just not that cool. I don't know if I could really vote ANY Fender amp as most versatile even though they're all great in their own ways. Something like a Twin or a 4x10" Super Reverb have MILES of cle...

You can always just plop down a credit card. Most places have a 30 day return policy. Of course if you do something to it then you just bought yourself some new gear. That'a GREAT way to piss off the dealers... Personally I'd rather be friends with them so that when something blows up I can get a l...

Re: so...
So you folks that own the r-121 - would you say that it is 'natural' sounding as advertised? Does it sound like what your ears hear, like it's advertised? This is important to me. It seems if this were true, people would find it a bit more versatile. I guess it depends on how you want to define "na...

I always let tube gear warm up for at least a 1/2 hour before doing anything, usually it's more like an hour. The first thing I do is flip on the lava lamps, then the tube gear, then make some coffee. When the lava's flowin' the tubes are glowin' which means its time to get to work! I wouldn't be to...

Either is fine. I use the subouts if I'm combining things, say five toms to a pair of tracks or two/three mics on a guitar amp to one track. Otherwise I use the direct outs 'cause there's less junk in the signal path, summing amps & whatever else. If you can only default one in a patchbay setup I'd ...

Re: September Stick--Rhythm and Counting--Can you/Do you?
I usually have almost no hope for people like your gee'tar player buddy...I couldn't play in a band with someone who has no musical knowledge.
I mean geeez,
Even "Try it two steps up" rather then "nahhh doooood, move it over a couple frets" is better then nothing!
