After I posted I did some research on these consoles, and I would agree. I was assuming a smaller 16 to 24 channel console when I made that suggestion. The Scum wrote:My gut feeling is that you're not going to power a large format console over 18 or 20 ga without significant wire losses.

Is this cable going to be carrying low DC voltages only, or also wall AC voltage? 14 ga wire seems really heavy for low voltage DC. There's no harm in using it of course, but the heavier wire you use, the more it costs. Also a piece of 6 conductor cable will be a lot easier to find in 18 or 20 ga, i...

I don't always agree with their taste in music, but I like that they regularly discuss the music business (as the OP said) and what developments mean for musicians and fans: things like livenation, ticketmaster, emerging trends in music distribution, illegal downloading, bands self-releasing on the ...

you could also try a squawk box. they're made to amplify mag stock when editing film by hand. something like this:

I have a couple sitting around, one transistor, the other tube, but haven't gotten around to playing with them as guitar amps yet.

I listened to the first few tunes. I dig the guitar sound. Power pop has a real specific connotation to me, so I was expecting something more retro sounding- think big star, sweet, the boys, exploding hearts, etc. Your sound is more "modern" than that, but the words 'power' and 'pop' definitely fit. you probably don't need to bias them. if the amp sounds ok, they are probably fine. Interesting. I was under the impression that this is NOT a fixed-bias amp, and would require adjustmens. I just consulted the manual and the only thing it said re: tube replacement is: When replacing output tubes, p...

My assumption was that an electrician would tell me there is no safe way, which seems more and more to be the case. why? likely all that has to happen is to replace the romex with EMT (conduit), and verify that the circuits available have the capacity to handle the loads you will plug in to them. T...

Re: finding ground in an old building
After some testing I've identified at least one neutral, and what appear to be two separate live circuits 180 degrees out of phase. I get 120v between either of them and neutral, but 240v between the two of them. First question: what's up with that? Second, Can I use that conduit as a safety ground...

That dude comes from a time when you had to know how to play, what a dinosaur! He'll never make it these days. Ok- the current rock orthodoxy of no respect for musicianship or "chops", is fair game for criticism. But, how does having a billion cymbals and doing Garth-from-waynes-world tom fills con...

I believe a mixer I am selling fits your criteria. I don't know where you're located, but perhaps we could work something out. http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=69684&highlight= Ramsa wr-8816, 16 channels, 4 busses, 4 aux sends (in two stereo pairs). It will do everything you are asking...

Re: Active monitors - surprising freq-vs-gain structure resu
Driving a line-up has everything to do with how a final mix is going to sound. An SSL E-series console distorts in a musical fashion. Many believe those were the best sounding mix boards SSL made. Capitalizing on that bringing that character to your final result is definitely a choice. Consider als...
