Funny enough, I actually have Joel's 19a19. I know he liked it a lot, but it just isn't fair for one man to have so many amazing mics. In this case, I'm glad he decided to part with the Lomo. PS. if nothing else, the LOMO may be the strangest looking LD tube mic out there - especially if you find on...

Another vote for the 19a19. It seems to excel on all things stringed. I've also had success using it on a bass amp a few feet back for a roomier sound ditto gtr amps. I've even started to use it on vocals from time to time and it has lots of fans. Unfortunately, I have not used the Sony so I can't o...

Recording studios in Brooklyn (Bushwick area or closeby)?
Hellskitchen recording has just finished a build-out on a new space in Sunset Park. There are no photos on the website yet of the new space, but it is big (600 sq. ft live room with 15 foot ceilings) and has the mojo. Photos coming soon.

I have the c42s and MV691's (basically same as 692). I also have a pair of KM84's. I really love the rft/gefells - but they are a flavored mic for sure. I use them over both the 84's and the c42s for over heads and they were my go to for acoustic gtr as well until I got a lomo 19a19. The 691s with t...

My experience with this type of set up is that the percussion will be too loud in the room mic, vocal mics, and gtr mic. You can't really back the percussion up farther away from the mics because then it will sound too roomy compared to everything else. Really, your best hope in this regard is that ...

I have a trs8 and I use it as much as possible even though I have pro tools with apogee converters. 1) I think it sounds better (very subjective, but I did some pretty well controlled tests to come to this conclusion) 2) It can actually be really liberating to limit yourself to 8 tracks. 3) In this ...

Hi,
Assuming you are speaking of MV 692's, I had mine modded here: www.drefahlaudio.com
He is in Germany, but the turnaround was fast.
I love these mics.

Lomo repair and parts
Hi,
Anyone have any idea who out there repairs lomo's (19a19)? I am also looking for
another cable for this mic as the problem may be the cable and not the mic. Any ideas where I could find a replacement cable.
Many Thanks,
d

I never took that audiophile stuff seriously until I heard my brother in law's crazy high end set up. It blew my mind. i spent a fraction of what he spent and still found myself with a much more enjoyable home listening experience. The biggest revelation for me, however: VINYL VINYL VINYL. If you re...

As a couple folks have already said the 42's are incredibly detailed, they just seem to "hear" everything. I have used them a lot as overheads to good effect. They can be used in many other ways as well. I would put the sound somewhere between the km184 and the km84. They are not as brittle sounding...
