god, in teh meantime I have been using a borrowed Mackie mixer, just so I have someplace to grab a fader if stuff gets too loud. I've been looking at the Rupert Neve 5060. Damn that does exactly what I need, in not too much space. Darn it costs more than my car! Might need to take out a mortgage on ...

it's stupid. Microsoft and a few other companies have tried this and eventually caved to demand by large enterprises that won't tolerate such annoying billing. I work in broadcast and we have a lot of computers that are not allowed public internet access. I'd love to know how Adobe proposes to deal ...

Thanks for the reply, the seller never got back to me on that last one. But I am still on the lookout. I've used the HUI, control and control pro before. I am not crazy about the size of those units. The baby HUI is really more aligned with what I want, but I rarely see those for sale. Besides, I am...

MOTU 828 is great piece of gear, been my converter for a while now. But it is super picky about firewire. You are better off using a cardbuss or PC card firewire solution with TI chips on it. The Ricoh, and Via chips are pretty lousy, Agere appears to work sometimes. There is a MOTU mesage board cal...

Logic 8+ML+Mackie Control Universal Pro ?

Looking at one of the Mackie Control Universal Pro CS. I'm using Logic 8 on a MacBook Pro. Will upgrade to a Mac Pro after the next rev. Is anyone using the Mackie Control Universal in Mountain Lion? I am worried about buying one because the Mackie site says no drive needed with Mac OS. But the late...

I wonder if the rack may be acoustically amplifying the hum it does generate? I know those middle atlantic and panduit metal sided racks can sympathetically vibrate with the equipment mounted in them. We had that issue with the power transformer for our fiber connection. So we took it off the shelf ...

What I really hate is reading an interview with a producer/artist/studio owner and they inevitably get into the "how did you start" question. Too many times they do say they buried themselves in debt and then worked 10 years of 18 hour days in a row. As if that is something to aspire for! There was ...

I think you could probably find a synchronizer on ebay. There were a ton of them in use back in the 80s 90s. The hard part will be finding the connector deal for hooking it up to the synchronizer. IIRC the 80-8 did have a remote transport connection, but it's not anything standard like 9 pin. The ea...

A lot of folks like the older Ramsa WRS series boards. I used to have one and wasn't ecstatic about the sound of the board, but it doesn't sound bad. They do however have great ergonomics and patch points anywhere you could possibly want them, including -10 tape returns which come up on the same cha...

First off, I will admit that I dug myself a really deep hole with my first business. I was doing okay renting sound systems and started to get some decent traction with the DJ/corporate events crowd. So I bought a bunch of powered speakers and other PA gear. Then 9-11 happened and I lost my other gi...

yeah, Harmon may take away some of the personality of a company, but those companies benefit from being under the same umbrella as other pro audio companies. So you see some constructive collaboration. I'm the last guy to be trumpeting this, I work for a giant media conglomerate and need a bulldozer...

as much as this probably stinks...Tascam hasn't really put out anything worthwhile for quite sometime. They've decided to make iOS, portable, and budget interfaces...nothing the was build incredibly well or provides some sort of unique functionality. they've even stopped being helpful about legacy ...

118 is nominal. It probably droops a little under load but not enough to cause flapping. I have seen my tripplite switch back and forth between two taps every couple seconds when the voltage was right on the edge. Switching to the lower tap would draw more current, then the voltage would change beca...
