Don't worry about not knowing how to solder. There are many participants that have little or no experience. You will catch on quickly, and there is always an advanced solder-er nearby who may help you. You could practice if you want to, grab a proto board from radio shackle, get the ones with copper...

Tragibigzanda - I am no tech, but here are some clues. Solid state - describes a circuit that does not use vacuum tubes, but instead uses transistors or other bits of silicon. AC vs DC - Alternating Current (like from your wall [in the USA 60hz 120v]) where the two terminals reverse their polarity m...

Ch2 sounds a little fuller and is a little hotter. I usually use electric guitars over acoustics in A/B tests, I have more of an ear for that kind of stuff.
Awesome test nonetheless!

no problem. I hope the tests come in handy. I can't really decide if I like them or not. I think I do, but on non conventional applications.

Not necessarily. I don't know about your "telescoping ground" Method, but in most patch bays you will see the ground lugs for many channels bussed together, or in some cases jumpered from top row to bottom row. It is debatable whether or not to buss all of your grounds, however you have to at least ...

Here is the second Heil PR series test. You can download this whole folder at once with all of the mp3s inside. Scenario: I recorded a buddy of mine playing a little song starting with drums, then guitar and bass. Throughout the test I used two mics on each source, one standard mic and one Heil PR s...

I'm a little confused about what I'm listening to. Was all that stuff being played at once (claps and two guitars....) or were they separately tracked? Yes, Everything was overdubbed using all four mics at the same time. I recorded the guitar, Lead guitar, Stereo handclaps, and a live percussion se...

sweet. You're right, the inside of a Mesa is entirely too crowded with PC boards and all that stuff, you have to take every knob off to look at anything inside. I love my old amps, just wires and components and fresh air.

The mics were recorded straight through to the hard disk, then mixed straight to stereo. The only effects were on the 2 mixes, they all had a little light mastering effects, all exactly the same settings, exactly the same everything. I can throw together a few more samples for you to check out, but ...

RefD, do you mean Mesas need bias adjustment when you re-tube, or when you re-tube and do surgery? Mesa boogie only sells tubes that spec out perfectly ($$$). They color code all of their power tube sets, so you know that your replacement tubes will be very similar to your old tubes. Dual Rectifier ...

Hey mark, Mesas are notorious for developing hard-to-fix problems, or recurring problems. Does the Dual Rec have Rectifier tubes, or are you using the solid state diodes? I have been helping one of my buddies with his triple rec that would blow tubes and burn the safety resistors above the tubes, he...
