just curious if I'm the only one that feels like I'm giving up secrets by talking about the M-Tron. I imagine that everyone will have it all over their records soon and I'll feel like an ass. The new flaming lips album will ruin all hopes of a mellotron secret. I don't know if they used a m-tron or...

All the above feedback is applicable. However, if you want to "fix it in the mix" which is sometimes necessary, try a multiband compressor.

Jeff, I wholeheartedly disagree with you, but he got to work with Paul for at least two reasons. One: Nigel Godrich produced Jason's "Can You Still Feel" and knew him from that. Two: Jason has a children's record called Bedtime with The Beatles. He does these instrumental lullably versions of Beatle...

plus, that version of Cheap Trick's "Voices" with the wax cylinders just kills me. I'd much rather just listen to Cheap Trick do it themselves. This is exactly what I'm talking about in reference to these guys, the people they work with (Aimee Mann, Beck, Fiona Apple, Rufus Wainwright etc...)are al...

To each their own. Have any of you heard TV Eyes? Falkner, Roger Manning Jr, and Brian Rietzell (redd kross) did this eighties revival project in 99 while working on Air's 10,000 Hz legend in France. It's really stunning and may I say far superior than any of the current eighties revival projects. F...

Sorry to briefly change the subject...but you guys might be interested on this record Chris Manning (Jellyfish) just produced. The artist is Chris Brown. The album is "Now that your fed". The mix and production is great, but it seems the mastering engineer was on a 5k binge at the time IMO. Puig is ...

I would actually agree with what you just said about the drums (especially the SNARE!). I do love the guitars and bass though. You don't hear much about Falkner and Brion for their guitar playing as much as their songwriting and producing. But, they both deliver phenomenal performances (as they do o...

The Grays record he did sounds incredible. I really love everything about it sans maybe the snare, but that's a taste issue.

I have a CP-20 I may be willing to part with for a decent price. I live in FL so shipping might be ridiculous. It's over 100lbs. Interested?

the brion version sounds like a Jon Brion project with vocals by Fiona Apple. The elizondo version sounds like a Fiona Apple project. Then what did "When The Pawn..." sound like to you? Jon Brion had a very prominent role in how that record sounded. And that record sounds amazing. One of my all tim...

the brion version sounds like a Jon Brion project with vocals by Fiona Apple. The elizondo version sounds like a Fiona Apple project. The string arrangents in the Brion version are sometimes more front and center than the vocals. I prefer this version. However, maybe Fiona and/or Epic did not like t...

That focusrite red compressor needs to be taken away from him and not given back until he learns how to not hurt my ears with it. Drew, that whole "Green album/Tom Lord-Alge" thing didn't turn you off to compression, huh? That whole Green Album/Tom-Lord Alge things turned me off to weezer. Strangely...

On XTC's "Season Cycle" from the Skylarking record there's this high pitched blip on (i think) the second verse. This happens right after he sings "Season Cycle move from death to light.." Maybe Todd Rundgren or Andy Partridge were in a weird mood and did it on purpose or maybe it's a mistake. Who k...

I work for a very large record company and all advance copies of major releases are watermarked. They do not play in computers, but if it leaks for some reason, the company can trace the music back to the original person for whom it was intended . When I get an advance copy of a CD, it has my name o...
