Differences in Sennheiser 421 over the years

Hi, I am looking at a used Sennheiser 421. Are the current/new ones being produced made with plastic bodies or something? The seller says this one has "the old black metal body". I know the oldest ones were white, but are there any differences in black ones made from 70s through today?

Many thanks to you Michael. So this is safe for all the versions (I have the British one, not the Chinese or Russian one)?

Also, do you know where I might find the manual for this? I looked at and emailed all Oktava sites but no luck.

Oktava MKL-2500 Mic and Phantom Power?!?!

Hi, I have an Oktava MKL-2500 Valve Microphone. I can only run phantom power from my mixing console "all channels powered" or "all channels not powered". Because I need to turn on phantom power to all the channels of my console in order to run other condenser mics, I need to know if it is safe to pl...

If you made $500 from recording, you could afford to pay an accountant and your taxes on that income and still have enough left to buy an sm57 or something. Not bad for doing a hobby that you enjoy. Maybe. Dunno... Like I said, I'm not arguing either side... just making a point based on observation...

Only slightly good news... I have always used 1040EZ. Still, having to factor in the costs of an accountant to figure out something I have always been able to do on my own, use a new/more complex form, and the bit about what I can factor in for studio deductions/costs makes claiming ~$500 under the ...

Why. I'm not arguing if you should or shouldn't pay taxes (like many are doing here)... just that it's a legit question from someone who is a small time hobbyist with the odd position to do it for a friend and how to look at being compensated. I read this and it made me think about my own position, ...

Re: Continues to be hypothetical

Again, read as hypothetical, because I own NO studio NOR space. Wanted to get my situation situated BEFORE I start doing anything. Better to have a handle on plans and legal things BEFOREHAND... Good information + educated-decision = :^: Just diving in without researching = :schuettel: Don't fault ...

Cool article, 0-it-hz!

So it sounds like the CAD sin't anything special over the others inthis rangne not is it a slouch... I'm kinda hoping for something affordable that isn't a sound effect so the long ribbon/short throw that gives extended flat range seems to be what I should go for.

Thanks JWL! DrummerMan, I too have recorded in very sub standard conditions but attained wonderful results. It's not that I cannot get good results no matter what I do with my space, it's that I now have my own space that I can do what I please and want to ask questions to help me find what's best f...
