I'm pretty sure that's not Chris in the picture. I don't see any Chuck Taylors. That IS odd. I can't really see my feet in the photo. I think maybe I had them tucked up on the center post of the chair. I can kind of see one of them (the bottom of my left foot, methinks), but not the other. I can gu...

It's gonna take awhile to get all the photos together of the move-in and I've been busting ass to get everything totally ready for my sessions that started today. I will get them up and I'll have the story here for you all, as well. I had my first session today, starting to mix the new David Tomalo...

80/20s likely to be far brighter than Silk and Steel just by manufacturing process alone....Silk and Steel usually have silk wrapped between the core and the winding of the strings if I am not mistaken. This makes them duller and mellower. 80/20s are just a different flavor of "traditional". Classic...

- Topic: POLL: How do you PROFITABLY use your HOME studio?

My home studio isn't "for profit" per se....but it sort of is profitable with the way I work. I primarily record the bulk of my own records there and have them mixed elsewhere. This is actually "profitable" in that I am free to delve in and experiment without paying elsewhere. I do a small amount of...

http://www.chrisgarges.com/images/AngelaPhotos/VirginMaryA.jpg Coolest thing about the whole board right now, imho. Hands down. I am not joking. Please say it stays. If it didn't already, that console now has mojo. Cool. See...I'm a huge fan of that kind of art and a huge fan of Clutch. This is abo...

Sounds like a job for Oblique Strategies! :D Actually, when I get stuck, I either think about: (a) is there a different compositional arrangement that could work, which would require possibly recording a couple of extra parts to substitute for others, or (b) figure out which track needs to go. Most...

As mentioned, so much will depend on what you want the end result to be.....everything mentioned here so far is right on, in fact. That said, I love the SM81 on acoustic guitars, myself. I'm not a huge fan of the 4033, but I do love the AT4047 and 4050 as well in that area. Something else to look fo...

Seventh Circle Freaks....D11 DI
I don't know if anybody's been following the D11 DI saga over at Seventh Circle's site, but I thought I'd mention to my fellow SCA freaks that it's now available. It's quite nice...dual inputs/outputs for running stereo or splitting to 2 pres....each channel has independent impedance switches...Tim'...

i like the sm81 with a good mic pre. i like the 451 with a good mic pre. both sound poopy without a good pre. i like recording ac gtr with a good tube pre and an sm 81. i will either do that or use a cmv 563 or an m49 or u67 or u47 with a neve pre, but usually i like the sm81. seriously.dont discou...

I can't say enough great stuff about the Hamptone stuff. As always, mileage will totally vary. To me, the units are quite a bit different, but really in small ways. I find the JFET version to be really a little "beefier" and the tube version to be a little more "present and clear". Both units can be...

Man, Chris..... That's a really great looking piece of hardware! It's still so unbelievable that so little was wrong with that thing. I dig the blow by blow updates, btw! The best part of something like this is knowing you could totally get wiped out, own nothing but that bucket, and you'd still tot...

I think I already told you....it's a good thing we aren't salon chicks or something. I'd have to hate you for life and f*@k your boyfriend....twice! Settle down. You're already the cool kid because your record will be the first full-length mixed on it! Oh yeah! Plus....I don't think I've ever been ...
