I've moved my BX20 a few times.
Sometimes upright and sometimes on it's side.
I have used many packing blankets surrounding the spring tube, and also above and below.
Seemed to be safe and worked fine.

if you look close, those caps have been used, the ic sockets have been removed.
More than likely BAD old parts.

Don't get an Studer 827 if you want a SOUND.
Sure it does have a great transport and operation, but is pretty bland sounded.
Also, studer parts cost a lot, and the whole company is in limbo right now with the Harmon Kardon side.
