Ive used it on everything from vintage rogers and ludwigs to full blown DW death metal kits and it kicks ass on all of them. It's all in the placement, and hardly ever needs to be eq'd

defintely do that

yeah you need to hit a stud. you can use a magnet to find a sheet rock screw, or a "stud finder" (which is a magnet with an led attached to it) or measure from a corner. Generally studs are 16" apart, so you might get lucky
