Re: Thoughts on Q-base.

if it ggets the job done for you.. kudos. But there are certainly tools that get it done faster and in higher quality... I guess some people dont have the $$ for that stuff, or the "patience"....

so uh, cubase records for you, doesnt crash for you (you're one of the lucky ones then)... have fun!

Re: bands that make you want to vomit...

300bpm doesnt exist. The fastest bpm a human can experience is 240. After that, the mind begins to make subdivisions without a clearly defined beat. exactly. the beat is rarely clearly defined in grindcore. they are playing so damn fast it sounds more like noise. which is the main goal in mind for ...

Re: So is it really good if I think it sounds good?

Ive simply noticed it's the first thing people say when they're sick of trying to get the material to sound right. "man, if it sounds good, its good". I.e. stop trying to get it to sound GREAT, and let my shitty playing just be. I'm trying to wrap my brain around this... sounds like you've been fee...

Re: So is it really good if I think it sounds good?

I think my focus here (as shown by the examples) is the distinction between sounding good, being sonically intact, and what's there actually being good. Good for your health, good for your soul, good for your ears, good for you somehow. Ive simply noticed it's the first thing people say when they're...

So is it really good if I think it sounds good?

So tell me folks. If it sounds good, is it really good? The drummer who cant play in time worth a shit, but you ran his ass through any wonder-name brands of equipment (api, neve, urei, UA, manley, cranesong etc...)... sure as hell sounds good doesnt it? or the the liberachi who recorded himself on ...

Re: More Albini thoughts

One must also realize many rock bands just plain stink, musically and technically... so not messing with it is pretty hard. Steve is to the point where he doesnt need to filter through people to find a good band that fits his style, they come to him. Im sure if he had this philosophy working with s...

Re: bands that make you want to vomit...

I must say, if you think about reggie.. its pretty sickening.

but if you turn it up going 85 down the highway with the windows down... its damn good music.

Re: Drummer leaves beater on kick, sounds like crap

And yes, this whole time I've been speaking about leaving the beater on the head till RIGHt before the next hit. This is what many, many drummers do. If you wanna leave it down for a second to muffle slightly, more power to you. Ive noticed anytime i enter a conversation, on any forum... people mist...

Re: Drummer leaves beater on kick, sounds like crap

I agreed he does leave the beater down, but brings it up in anticipation of the next hit. Not leaving it down TILL the next hit as many, many drummers do. as for "limits", you must remember some of us arent trying to be artistic, or place some sort of mark on the world. as strange as that may seem.....

Re: Drummer leaves beater on kick, sounds like crap

Auxilliary, in response to the Thomas Lang comment....unless my eyes and ears were not working about five minutes ago when I was watching his DVD, he had a short lesson on this exact subject. Sometimes he leaves it on and sometimes he takes it off. It all depends on what sound he is wanting. Any se...
