Sounds like a bad PSU. Probably you should start worrying that the other outputs are nearing the end of their lives as well.
What do you mean by the other outputs?
Power supply outputs - +48, +15, -15...

Re: Silly electronics question.

Ok, one more question about reducing. Let's say you have 2 100k resistors in parallel. Would it be 100k - 100k, essentially canceling them out and saying there's no resistance? Simply put, half the current goes through one resistor and half goes through the other. So it's 100k / 2 = 50k. Likewise w...

Re: Silly electronics question.

You'd increase the capacitance by putting them in parallel, and decrease the capacitance by putting them in series. Resistors work the opposite way. Simple formulas to figuring out the answer if it's more complicated than 1+1=2. Ever wonder why you keep seeing values like 470, 220, etc? Used to be m...

Looks like the outputs are in parallel, basically just like using a Y cable.

Re: What are your influences?

Gosh, where you do start on something like this? Growing up my Dad played organ and piano, and so we pretty much always had a piano and later a Hammond C3. We all had to take some piano lessons. Parents always willing to buy instruments if needed, and my brother (four years older) had a pretty good ...

Good tip thx! Would that be good enough to pass fire inspection?
I would imagine that it depends on your AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction). It would likely be a good thing to find out what their particulars might be before you stand an inspection, though.

Re: instrument DI box bang-for-buck

By the way, the "through" jack on a DI is just a passive split. A Y-cable would do the same thing if you don't want to spend money.

What does going through a DI into your interface buy you, vs. straight in?
It lets you do it at the end of a long mic cable instead of needing to be close to the interface.

Re: simple level control device?

Here's the fancy TC Electronics version of such a device:

Naturally you could also make your own for a couple of bucks. It's basically a guitar volume pot.
