I tried but I found it repetitive, undynamic and very boring. Where are the melodies? Where is the intensity?

Re: ELP's "Lucky Man"

Is it just me or do people seem to play it TOO safe with mixes these days? ABSOLUTELY! I listen to a lot of stuff from the 60s and 70s when radical mixing was more common. Generally, the stuff put out today seems so tame because everything is carefully put in it's place and while there may be some ...

YES!

Also, make headphone cords that easily detach from the headphones so they can easily be replaced when they invariably die from being stepped on while being worn. BRRRZP! ...shit!

I have nothing to compare it to other than some of my favorite records! It sure does sound Zeppeliny when you put an acoustic through it, though. The headroom is a little wanting but despite that I am in love. It's a very, very sweet midrange. It's now my favorite acoustic pre (that and the Chandler...

Re: A Disturbing Trend in the Tape OP Reviews...

I think Tape Op usually reviews gear that impresses the editors, despite it's price. I would imagine that exceptional, low-cost new gear is harder to come by than exceptional higher cost new gear. Sure, there are many examples of inexpensive, high-value gear we all use (sm57, RNC, etc.) but finding ...

Re: Looking for a nice vocal compressor

Mr. Dipity: I am looking for a somewhat colored new flavor. One especially good for vocals.

Tonedrone: My sympathies. I know that feeling. Getting the stuff I have now has been a long road.

I have been eyeing the 1176 but heard they were kinda lo-fi. Anyone feel that way or is that crazytalk?

This part is the best... First he explains his chart that lists sounds and their relative loudness: Range of Apparent Volume Levels With Typical Instrument in Each Level (With 1 being the Loudest & Closest to you, and 6 being the Lowest & Furtherest level) Then under 1 (the loudest) he lists: Alarm ...

All of those atrocious Def Leppard sounds after "Pyromania". That "Pour Some Sugar On Me" nonsense is the ultimate in horrible cheese.
