I've been putting two mics up on vocals lately (one dynamic and the other condenser). I use an Shure SM7B and Shure KSM42. We have a Shure Beta58 and KSM32 on another person. I'd stick with the 57 and try to find another complimentary mic by swapping out the 2nd mic until you find "it"...

Oddly, the gobos didn't help at all, nor did a 5-panel Clearsonic "drum wall", so I began thinking that the ceiling was the culprit. We found that a CAD 100 on the mando helped some and the SM7B I'm using on vocals seems to do well. I also think that the drums are reflecting off the acoustic guitar ...

acoustics question/not sure how to word it...

I've been recording acoustic guitars & mando with drums live (bass DI'd) upstairs in my barn (studio). The drums are at one end of the room while I have the cardioid mics trying to null the drums, at least somewhat on the guitars and mando...because of the curvature of the barn roof (and lack of tre...

It's hard to get excited about something as esoteric as 192kHz sampling rates when it might just be that the talent and the song have the biggest impact on the listener's perception...the song rules and the equipment serves the song...at least that's the way I learned.

I visit often. I "unfriended" myself on Facebook and deactivated the account. I appreciate the vibe and general tone of this Forum over most, if not all. Thanks for posting this thread Michael...you may be the Message Board Messiah...

Regardless of what we use, if as Brett Siler says, "It's a solid machine. I get work done, it sounds great, nobody has any complaints; myself included," then that's all that really matters. Not being part of the audio equipment industrial complex can be liberating.

I have a two-story studio. I track downstairs in "the pit" and mix/edit/master & broadcast/transmit an FCC licensed low power FM radio station upstairs.

I had the same thing happen and it turned out to be sticky tape gunking up the whole transport path...look and see if your tape path is dirty with "ferro-goo".

I have noticed that the smaller the playback system, the more compression I use when listening/mixing at low volume. I have noticed that the larger the playback system, the more headroom I like to keep intact when mixing. I just mixed/"mastered" some tunes on my MacBook Pro at the lowest volume sett...

I have been using it off & on for over a year and keep my version up-to-date. At $39, it is an awesome offer. I may get the Windows license to compliment my Mac version. It is very enjoyable using the mixer graphic user interface.

Why don't you add effects after you dump into the DAW? You can take the RCA tape outs from the Fostex and go directly into an 8 channel interface and save all your mixing and effects for when you are in the DAW.
