Depends on lots of things...the kind of music you are doing, your patience, what your end goal is, how much money you have. I've been still working on a side project of my own for several years. It is almost done and I've been to hell and back again. I haven't grown tired of the songs largely becaus...

At least in my experience, phase problems seem to disapate when you start panning the mikes away from each other. I.E., if there are phase issues, they are MOST apparent to me when the two signals are in the same pan position. Quite. Depends on whether one wants to keep a recording mono compatible ...

Ribbons. May I repeat myself: ribbons. So either you have your ceiling high enough or an absorber above. All the detail you want minus condenser resonances. Condenser capsules are tensioned so high, they most likely got resonances in places where your cymbals won't befriend them. Hence the question...

The best application of the "3 to 1 rule" is in convincing people that there are shortcuts to actually learning how to HEAR something. I can't even imagine ALWAYS having my second mic three times further from the source just to avoid something that I hadn't taken the time to learn to identify with ...

Damn, just ordered some snake cable and D-sub connectors. from Redco. Maybe I should have thought this through further... ha. after all the speculation in this thread, I've gone ahead and ordered everything from redco myself. I'm going to use the other mogami snakes for outboard gear. We've got an ...

Modified Epiphone Pro Valve Jr w/ Cabinet $350
Epiphone Pro Valve Jr w/ Cabinet $350 + Shipping from 49423, Holland MI Original boxes. Excellent, brand new like condition. I bought it off a GS member in '08 for $400 and have really enjoyed the amp. It's had light use as part of our small college recording studio. Still love the amp. Nothing wron...

I've already made a few of these. Yep. Pain in the ass. But this is a small college studio. We don't have revenue, just capital requests. So, if I've got $250 to spend it is going to be on something other than a cable I can make. I have time in the summer to solder and listen to music. I'm asking ab...

Making 25 pin d sub snakes
I'm a little confused why some of these premade cables are so expensive? I saw an RME cable for some $250. Even the parts. My tech bought some of the connectors from one website that wanted some $30? Is there anything wrong with these? http://www.markertek.com/Connectors-Adapters/Data-Connectors-Ada...

Tape doesnt do the distortion thing like people seem to think it does. Your points above are well taken, but I assume the OP means "tape saturation" which can have what some might call a kind of distortion. I haven't had to buy any new tape in years. I use my 5050 three or four times a year. Wish I...
