you assert how opinions are fairly worthless when speaking of mine, but suddenly when yours becomes the focus of the post, opinions are now not only quite worthful, but almost fact.
it's wonderful how that works eh?

Re: Drummer leaves beater on kick, sounds like crap
"if it sounds good, it is good" I think that's the worst saying on earth these days. It's the crutch for all the kids who think some pretty shitty sounding stuff IS GOOD. did i see a reference to "the ends justifies the means" in there too? another crutch for people who really dont know what's going...

rush the beatles (or anything from the 60's but the who) wilco (or any of that indie-pop stuff) coheed and cambria le tigre ilya... because they are so incredibly good and LOUD. almost threw up seeing them live, i got dizzy from all the delay and reverb and spinning effects. even with industrial 38d...

Re: freeing up space in a mix via extreme EQ'ing
if it doesnt fit, just hard pan it, and toss on tons of reverb. that includes drums, bass guitar and vocals.
or, what i do when something wont fit.... mute it. no use fucking it up trying to fit it in and having a bad sounding XXX that fits in the mix.

Re: Drummer leaves beater on kick, sounds like crap
In my mind, a professional is osmeone who does their job in the most efficient manner, producing high quality results while maintaining balanced proficiency across their range of skills. leaving the beater on the head violates at least 2 of those. I dont care how many dvd's you've done, or how much ...

I have heard one of these in person. And they sound fantastic.
that's all there is to it. Really does sound damn good if you're feeding it a good signal.

Re: Drummer leaves beater on kick, sounds like crap
actually, most professionals DO keep the beater on the head, and I adivse others too. The sound should not be effected. If it is, thats probably a tuning problem. Keep it on the head because you know at all times where the beater is. Most drummers do this. Dave as a professional drummer and enginee...

1. click 2. drums 3. rhythm guitars 4. bass 5. lead vocals 6. harmony vocals 7. guitar harmonies 8. guitar solos 9. keyboards 10. extras/loops/samples/special effects/fixes To make any 'timeless', professional sounding recording, this is the way to go about it. Always. Heh, I dont know if that's sa...

I could agree with that one. It stems down from there of course, but that's your basic starting point.pomo_dego wrote:whoa, whoa, whoa......

Re: Anyone getting any great mixes in the box?
Since I started mixing in sawstudio all my mixing fears are gone. huge low end, ultra clear, drums breath, guitars still sound huge. It's just wonderful requires reading the manual a bit, but WELL worth the effort.

Re: 57 on kick... he shoots, he scores!
while using a 57 1 foot out might work for you. it certainly won't work for every drummer and every type of music. I try to never paint myself into any recording corner. I have to change stuff around depending on the instrument and the music. Although i'll admit to having preset ideas for different...

Re: 57 on kick... he shoots, he scores!
About 1ft out, pointing 4-6 inches from the edge. I never put mics inside kick drums. I think it's the worst sound on earth. I always use resonant heads that have no hole, and encourage all drummers coming in to do the same. Ive never had one disagree after they heard the track recorded. Anyone have...

57 on kick... he shoots, he scores!
I just want to express my admiration for the incredibly punchy, deep but not muddy, highly present but not "smiley-faced" sound 57 on almost any kick drum will get you. Certainly my favorite kick mic these last few weeks and probabaly going to be my life-long standby. On a side note, cant stand the ...
