Maybe a dumb question, but can I use Pro Tools LE software without buying any digi hardware? I have an opportunity to get a copy of LE, and figured it'd be worth having if it would even work. I'm currently using WinXP and Sonar 2.2 with an Aardvark 24/96 card.
Any thoughts? Thanks...

Are you willing to sell it straight up? I don't have much to trade, unless you're interested in cash and a Rode NT1000.

Re: Getting the most, mix-wise, from drum loops
I used to use loops for lots of demo type stuff, and the one thing that did help was using a multiband compressor to bring out the bass drum without enhancing the cymbals. Still, loops are a pretty difficult thing to manipulate.

Samplitude 7?
I've been thinking of trying out Samplitude 7, so was hoping someone could throw some ideas at me as far as how they like it, what they use it on, how it performs with midi, what kind of plug-ins they use...
Thanks...
Thanks...

I'm SHURE that happens 57 or 58 times a day, but I'm just happy with anything that will IMPROVE YOUR SOUND DRAMATICALLY at a COST EVERYONE CAN AFFORD. Just my own personal two cents, though.

Re: Alan Lomax - Recording SOUNDS OF THE SOUTH
Anyone have any idea how the music was dealt with after it was recorded, i.e., was it mastered, normalized or anything like that?
I love those field recordings...

Not sure how I stumbled onto this thread, but just by reading the first few pages, I have to say that you are both pursuing lines of reasoning that are just fucking stupid, and here's why: 1. Nobody will convince me that 'race' doesn't exist. I completely agree that, biologically speaking, there are...

Re: recommend a good vocal mic -- ideally $200 or less?
Yeah, I think it's just that one is cardiod and the other is hypercardiod. Also, I think I just happened on a Beta57 that worked for me, so I grew attached to it. So attached, in fact, that I started taking it to the park with me. That's when my fiancee tossed it in the garbage. No, in all seriousne...

I'll second the Oktava 319, and also add the Shure Beta 57...I love that mic on everything it's put up to, vocals included.

Re: Some good ways to warm/dirty/fatten while tracking digit
It won't solve all your problems, but the only plugs I've used that really do add some warmth are the PSP plugs - the Vintage Warmer comp and the MasterQ parametric EQ. I have the Antares Tube plug too, but I really only find that useful with soft synth sounds and the occasional bassline. Ozone3 has...

The hook is the part when all the other guys shut up and let Justin Timberlake do his falsetto.
