$800 - $1,200 if it is in good working condition and the heads are ok. Way less if otherwise (do I hear $300 ?). Some comments about the 440B-8: These are good solid machines, parts are plentiful (eBay etc.), and they are easy to work on, even if you are not an electronics wiz. There are many many 4...

There should be a rod going into the stainless steel cover over the back/top of the head assembly with a knob on top. Pull the knob up for one configuration and push down for the other. If the knob is missing, remove the stainless steel cover (Allen screw at back) and see how the heads are wired. Ea...

Otari MX-5050 spare parts available
I have a bunch of working spare parts from a MK III on eBay right now. I thought I'd mention it here in case anyone has a machine with issues.

Ampex AG-440B
Whereabouts are you? PM me with your phone number and I can ask some more questions to help pin down the problem. Buying a 2nd machine for the parts is a very good option, and cheaper than a working Otari. Which are nice machines but they are NOT an Ampex!

Your Ampex AG-440B problems
Nate
I have a number of spare parts for 440Bs. Like the previous post says it can probably be fixed.
I'm in OC, so we may be close.
PM me, or post the problems for some of us to respond to.

Re: FS Otari MX-5050 1/2" 8 Track
You can still purchase new pinch rollers from Otari in LA. About $75 + shipping.
Great little machines. Torque-driven braking - I never knew that until I got one. Nice to find that on an old semi-pro machine.

Re: Pricing for tape gear
Well, he can try to get over $2k, but recently these machines have been going for more like $1k, unless they were unused (yes, there was one recently). Just being realistic.
