No longer available

No longer available. Steinberg MR816x is a firewire interface with 8 very nice clean pres and very nice converters. Great box with individual phantom power switches. I've only used this a few times--mainly recording myself now. I don't have the disks for it, but will throw in a firewire cable. Shiny...

Thanks for this tip! Use what you have. If you have a DAW, do the following: Split the mono mic signal from the drumkit into 4 identical tracks: 1. The original unaffected track. Keep this one with no processing. 2. A track for the low end only. Use a lowpass filter to remove everything above 100-12...

I used my Heil PR20 over the kick pointed at the snare. The kick doesn't have much low end to it--I got a lot more low end in the kick with the PR20 in the overhead position. That sound worked best below the bass. This kick will definitely live above the bass. Lots more snare sound, a lot less cymba...

Thanks for that link, Brett. Sounds like the same concept doug & Snarl were talking about. I think I'll give that a try and see what we get.

Thanks for all the ideas. I'll see what I'm able to pull together while setting everything up.

One mic on drums

Where would you put the mic if you only had one channel for drums for recording a live show? I know, where it sounds best, but I'll have little or no time to soundcheck and a small crowded outdoor stage. I'm playing and running the live sound too, so it's going to be a scramble to get it all done. H...

Live Show recorded in Auria on the iPad

Here's some cuts from a live show I recorded in Auria. Used the direct outs and insert taps from a Mackie 1604VLZ into a Presonus 1818VSL with ADAT in from a Steinberg MR816 for 12 tracks in at once on an iPad2. I mixed in Logic Express with some UAD plugs. It was a bit distracting recording, playin...

I've never heard of Amanda Palmer before this. I doubt I'll look anything up about her.

How do you get the half price deal? I'm liking the 1176 on some vocals I'm mixing right now. Checked the uad site--saw $299 for the 1176 bundle. Vocals all of a sudden just sit right in the mix through the 1176. Well that and just a tweak or two on the Pultec.

Reaper is very solid. Push record and forget about it. It'll run till you hit stop.

I tracked a live show I played in (and did the live sound) using Auria. Signal chain: SM58s on vocals, pickups direct in on all acoustic instruments, Heil PR20 drum overhead (should have used more mics on the drums but it was a tiny stage and cables/mic stands every damn where), direct out for bass....

I keep telling myself no more UAD plugins--learn to use what I have. Now you tell me this. Thanks.

Glad to hear it works. I'm mainly doing stuff with small track counts so the laptop card is about all I need.

Please let us know if that Sonnet TB/Expresscard adaptor works with the UAD laptop card. I hope so!

Does your iMac have a Thunderbolt port? I've read somewhere that the laptop card works with TB ExpressCard adaptor. I'm hoping that's true because I'm in the same boat when this old MBP dies. The UAD plugs are the best I've heard, but I have no experience with anything other than the stock plugs for...
