FS: AT8801 Phantom Power Supply

For Sale: Audio-Technica AT8801 48v phantom power supply. Just a simple little box with XLR in/out that supplies phantom to one mic. This guy was indispensable in my 4-track days when I had a machine that didn't provide phantom... Also useful in situations where you only want phantom on one channel....

FS: Pair of Nady RSM-4 ribbon mics

I have a pair of Nady RSM-4 ribbons I'm looking to sell. They're in like-new condition, with original boxes, pouches, stand mounts... I've had them for a few years and used them sporadically. I've been getting more into dynamic mics, so these haven't seen as much use in the past year or so. They've ...

Aberfeldy recorded an LP with one mic. Here's some info on it: "In 2003, Aberfeldy recorded 14 songs with producer Jim Sutherland at his studio above Edinburgh's Bongo Club, using only one microphone and no overdubbing. The resulting tracks were licensed to Rough Trade Records and released in 2004 ...

This was a great interview. I'd seen his name on a few records but didn't know much about him. This is one of my favorite things I've read in Tape Op in a while: "It's not about, 'Oh wait! Did we have a "guitar up one half dB" mix?' I can't back that anymore. I cry for the landfill that's full of ta...

These songs sound great! It's fun to read all the background stories behind making them too.

YEAH! So whats some of yous guysss New Years music resolutions? I'm trying to get back into something I did for part of last year -- but which eventually fizzled out after my record got finished -- which is to make music every day. Whether that means band practice, recording a song, recording someo...

I have two tascam 414 MK II's but neither of them power on  I have the proper power supply and one of them did power on and function (once). Got them from ebay so I guess I should have expected as much. Austin, any experience with power up issues in the past? The power supply for mine eventual...

Aw, that's not poor engineering, just an (era-appropriate?) aesthetic choice.

I tend to like albums with "clear identities" too. But that's not always determined by the superficial aspects of genre or whatever; sometimes it's about the tone ("tone" in an emotional sense, not necessarily a sonic sense). Maybe some of your ambient pieces feel right with some of the acoustic son...

Re: New to recording and just purchased a Tascam 424. Advice

When I mic my entire band in one room will their be a lot of bleeding between mics. I'm going to have to mic the drums with two mics, my amp with one for guitar and a vocalist. To the OP: Don't forget that you can bounce tracks after you record them -- You might experiment with recording the drums ...

Vic Chesnutt - At The Cut

Anyone else been listening to this? One of the most striking recordings I've heard in a while. The sense of space and realism is incredible. Like "close your eyes and you could imagine the musicians are really in the room" realism. It's also really dark and intense -- I often find that I don't liste...
