Acoustic bass requires a good room to record well. It needs the space for the low end to develop. No reason why electric bass can benefit from the same treatment. For the amp, I reckon? While I ocassionally run my "P" into a Boogie Mark2B, I go DI way more often. But combining the last two poster's...

Never mix with MP3s. In addition, unlike more developed formats like vorbis, or musepack, MP3 leaves little chunks at the beginning and end of a file. It can't encode without encoding in chunks. Other encoders can go down to the sample I believe. so whereas you may be able to convert a vorbis file ...

Another thing that often works for me is to make a copy of the Bass track and put a HPF and sometimes a LPF on it. Then put the reverb on THAT track only. Sometimes delaying that track is nice as well. jmp In retrospect, so obvious, and yet, 8) ! Exactly the kind of tip I was looking for... -------...

Re: the studio 'pretty war' - is it worth it?

Ok, so shoot me, I'm coining a new term here. As I'm starting up my studio here in Chicago, honestly the LAST thing I want to spend money on is making the place look like a million bucks. I don't mind na nice coat of paint on the walls, but there's tons of places that I see that only sport ho-hum g...

, and both engineers have the oh-so-necessary indie beard. . . As I am now growing a beard, I think we need a thread about this: As I'm starting up my beard here in Chicago, honestly the LAST thing I want to spend money on is making my puss look like a million bucks. I don't mind a nice shave and t...

Thanks for helping me make my point.

I remembered it from the days I drove a Pinto with an 8-track, and also listened to a lot of UFO, Zep and Molly Hachet.

I had a bass player some years back, loading his Firebird after a gig, put his "P"-bass on the roof, never to be seen again.

One can only suppose that it fell off as he drove away; it wasn't there the next day.

Because I never know when to stop, you can hear the Foghat version here.

Now you may forever question my taste and judgement!

Much cooler is the Mule, here (besides the taper singing along in the first few seconds...).

They are on Warner Bros., 2006.

I bought at Best Buy, and the CDs' white security strip on the top say "expanded".

The track list on the back shows bonus songs, also; Tres Hombres has live versions of "...Bus", "Jesus..." and "La Grange."

Gonna have to get that.

Where You Hang Your Hat is an entertaining read, although not for recording/session info.
