Acoustic bass requires a good room to record well. It needs the space for the low end to develop. No reason why electric bass can benefit from the same treatment. For the amp, I reckon? Never mix with MP3s. In addition, unlike more developed formats like vorbis, or musepack, MP3 leaves little chunks at the beginning and end of a file. It can't encode without encoding in chunks. Other encoders can go down to the sample I believe. so whereas you may be able to convert a vorbis file ...

Another thing that often works for me is to make a copy of the Bass track and put a HPF and sometimes a LPF on it. Then put the reverb on THAT track only.
