do you have any specific applications in mind? i use it on mid to high range stuff...snare guitar vocals hats maybe some keys i wasn't really knocked out by it on heavy electronic bass drum or bass guitar... but it does have some good glue for non bass heavy material.... it's no distressor but it's...

Get a AT 4050 multi pattern condenser and a Beyer m160 hypercardioid ribbon.

You can get a B-stock AT4050 at 8thsteet.com for $350 (i just got 2) and a Beyer M160 for $600. This will give you two great mics and tons of flexability. And you have $50 left over to buy candy.

Right now I just record myself...mostly acoustic guitar based with lot of other instruments around it. This is my most typical acoustic set up: mic (Beyer m160 or Neumann/Gefell umt70s)------>great river me-1nv---->distressor----->speck eq------>tascam I do print EQ and compression most of the time....

For OH's I love them. I used them to track some drums for a couple of moody songs for my band and they did just the trick. I even tried them with the Johns method and had really good results. I haven't had too many preamp issues. My tascam board has plenty of gain and other than that I have used so...
