Re: anyone ever record in a church?

A lot of it really depends on the room itself. I have recorded in lots of "churches" which were just plain old rooms with drywall (yucky sounding), while others were really fantastic sounding spaces - giant wood rooms with pipe organs, big stone Cathedrals, etc. It's a shame to let a phenomenal room...

Re: new jack needs help upgrading front-end

i'm thinking pre-amps. i've spent some time in fancy pants studios and what has always amazed me is the difference the pre makes. i've got sm57's and i'm recording at 24/48, but it sure doesn't sound the same. I think you may be wise investing in some better mic's too. 57's are great for guitar amps...

Re: C414 - ULS or TLII

WOW - thanks for all of the great input. For those who asked about other choices, I already own a matched pair of Schoeps CMC64's and two pairs of Oktavas, one pair of multi-capsule, the other cardioid only. I am looking for a pair of LDC's to use mainly as close accents for piano/instrumental and/o...

Re: sytek pre's

They are definitely great pre's. They are so natural sounding and quiet, I guess pristine is the word. The only thing I don't particularly care for them on is close vocals. Not that they are bad for vocals - just not my first choice. That said, I ordered mine some time ago without the Burr Brown IC ...

Re: C414 - ULS or TLII

I saw on the datasheets that the TL-II had a really hyped high end as opposed to the ULS. Does it sound harsh at all? I have used the ULS as an accent mic on strings and liked the sound I got, but never used it for stereo other than close mic'ing a grand piano. These were all rental mic's btw.

C414 - ULS or TLII

I record a lot of classical music on-site and am considering getting a "matched" pair of 414's. Does anyone one use either of these flavors and have an opinion one way or the other? I have used the ULS model many times, but never the TLII.

Thanks in advance.
