I'm thinking about picking one up for recording song ideas while traveling and at work. Any opinions?

Not to Behringer bash, but I had one of there small mixers; hated it, returned it and got a Mackie. Now some would say the Mackie sucks...

Count me in on that too! I still want that mic, but I'm very happy to have my money back.

I've got a M-Audio Fast Track Pro and it has spdif connections that I've been using for dig input and I think it sounds pretty good. I'm sure there are way better and expensive sounding solutions out there.

I've actually been thinking about getting a ART "Digital MP Gold". Keep me posted.

You already have a sound card, but this may fit the bill for you and, depending on your sound card, may be can upgrade.

I've heard of a mysterious device called a "mixer" which may have all the capabilities you seek and more. How to acquire such a device I do not know.

Now without smartassness, I've used a Mackie 1202 for that very purpose.

They get used over pretty much everything else at studio G (only exceptions are the Sage Electronics pres on kick and snare and a VTL era Manley Tube Pre on vocals when we want them to get a little dirty). This week I transfered old comedy shows from dat to Protools, edited out all the crap (the duhs, ahs and let me start that agains), which was actually alot of fun. Burned the shows to CD. Gave the cds to the producer. Two days later I reburned the cds as the producer lost the first batch. Next week ...
