Re: line 6 modeling guitar? yech??

i have used amplitube quite a bit. for guitar it sucks. plain and simple. i would be embarrassed to show up at a gig and plug my guitar into a laptop to play regular rock guitar. this plugin in particular does havwe some good things about it tho. the reverb in the amp section is pretty good, the "fx...

Re: questions from a 'newbie' to mastering (well, kinda newb

i agree. i think we need a new name for dudes who do further work on their own mixes as stereo entities. it's not usually really "mastering" and it's kind of a bad frame of mind to be thinking of it as such (because what real ME's do is different and more advanced). but like we both said there is no...

new strings wow duh

my friend called me tonite and said "it's like i have a new guitar! i changed the strings.." i laughed..... i thought it was funny that even after playing for 15 years or so, him and me both (and i suspect a bunch of others here) are actively still amazed at the improvement in sound after changing t...

line 6 modeling guitar? yech??

has anyone tried out that thing? there is something that seems so wrong about it to me but maybe it gets some cool not-quite the real thing kinda sounds? hopefully it's not just a guitar that sounds like POD...

Re: Autotune fav?

lol funny i think that's kinda one of the cool things about pitch correction. it gives us hacks who have absolutely no chance of ever being a singer some sort of chance to at least make something funny. because while it is sort of transparent, once you know the sound of it, it's pretty obvious when ...

proposed snobbery and scare tactics aside...

i know it's more about the ear than anything, especially mastering - but what's typical for compression and limiting settings for a loud rock recording? sorry to give a weird answer, but really whatever sounds good (on as many playback systems as you can check it out on) should be fine. sometimes t...

Re: Autotune fav?

it's like watching a car wreck happen. i just started at it for a while then found myself hitting "reply" :ar15: + :hammer: + :kotzen: = :alien: personally i use the antares plugin. as much as i hate the damn thing i gotta admit it's usefulness. no new info there i guess. i bet the standalone unit i...

Re: Help needed with an analog+digital question! thanks.

You might get some increased distortion, flutter, noise, and worse frequency response, but none of the usual benefits of analog recording. you say that like it's a bad thing  hehe i would pay good money for a plugin that could do that for real. not that a nice tape setup isnt worth it! it's ...

Re: AKG mics

about the c4000b.... ive had one for maybe 3 years now. it is a pretty good sounding mic but goddamn is it boring! if you need to record something that has to sound really good but not have a lot of character or color (i bought it to do voiceovers, which i think it is perfect for), this is the mic f...

yo so what! so the dude likes how super crushed music sounds... he has a right to feel that way. i agree that in the right situation it is a very cool sound. not usually, but on the right songs, hell yeah.

Re: why are transformers so important?

I grew up in the area and have known many former students and know some current ones as well. I did take a couple of summer classes one being astonomy and the other being studio recording with this fine young man named Justin a former student who was the one who told me about the transformers lady....
