Skid baffles
Hey everyone, We were thinking of making some baffles. Someone where I work chucked some skids (shipping pallets). Could I just tack some Owens-Corning 703 on each side of these and use them as baffles? Is this dumb? If it's not dumb, should I also put some insulation in the middle? They're not gian...

Re: Cort Earth 1000 Accoustic as good as a Martin or Taylor?
My acoustic is a "Carlos." I have no idea who makes it or how much it cost, but since my parents got it for me I assume it was wicked cheap. The brand is a sticker on the headstock, so I suppose I could peel it off and see what's under there, but I like Carlos. In spite of everything, it actually so...

Re: The meaning behind your band/name
We picked Shumai because we were discussing the band name while getting sushi. Most of our stage names were taken from the appetizer menu (except for our bass player who was Razzle because she was from LA). We also have a side project called the Target Larks, which is named after, well, the Larks pe...

Re: Fender Champ
while we're discussing champs, we've got a blackface vibro champ that Wasabi Shumai's ex-boyfriend played bass through and rendered the speaker fart-o-riffic. Any suggestions for a good replacement (I see the Weber above)? I was leaning towards a Celestion vintage or something. I really want this am...

Re: Favorite Christmas albums (yeah it's early)
We're putting one out of all indiepop Christmas/Hanukah/winter songs called "Cwistmas Twee." It's at the pressing plant as we speak. With any luck, it will be available by Christmas. But we did it because I too am sick of most of the Christmas music you hear. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree sends ...

Re: DIY : radio shack mic element
I think I only paid like $30 for the mic. It looks cool, but I don't know if it's totally worth fixing. I think it's an ancestor of the SM58, and has an 1/4" plug attached.Scodiddly wrote:Or you could mail it to Shure with (I think) $55 and get it fixed/replaced.

Re: DIY : radio shack mic element
Here's a question: I have an old Shure microphone (I can't recall the model now, Unidyne something or other I think) that stopped working one day when it fell out of the mic stand and hit me in the face. (Actually, glasses and face, as if anything gets near my face laws of physics dictate it MUST hi...

Re: RPGs and Recording
There was actually a D&D elective in my junior high, which really helped ostracize us dorks. On the plus side, my friend invented a "Wand of 2000 Flushes" which would suck everything in a room into it. No Dungeon Master would ever allow him to use it though. I think it runs in my family, as I have a...

You need a name that sounds dirty, but isn't. Like Mukluk.

Boy George once described Prince as "a dwarf dipped in pubic hair."
I guess that's not a rumor though.

Re: DIFFUSORS to preserve room reverb
hi ethan, for the completely budget-less amongst us, how do you think books on shelves fare as diffusors? thanks, scott Ethan didn't take part, but there was a thread about this (started by me, rather than killed by me) a while back. http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=10905 It seems to ...

Re: Anyone had a short run dup done by musicians friend?
we did a CD (not CD-R) through Omnidisc. They were good, but they take a while. The 10 day turnaround they talk about is 10 days after the final proofs are approved, which can take several weeks. Friends of mine had a hard time with them, in that they were promised stuff by a certain date, but didn'...
