First off get whatever you want to spend your money on. I've used in the past the first generation 424, a 424 III and a TSR 8. Each one of them sounds different and they have all been great machines. Once you go down the rabbit hole of buying gear it's a never ending love/hate thing for some people ...

Since it's a cassette format then any 90 min CrO2 tape will do. I'm a Maxell man myself. You'll have to find them on Ebay or Amazon although there some tape houses still out there.

I have a 1592 that worked when I first bought it and then it stopped and I never got a chance to get it fixed. Anyone good with repair on these things? I'd really like to have it back in my rack to use with some ribbon mics.

Alesis Wedge rocks....If you can find one that's been taken care of and all it's a fine addition. So to is the Yamaha Rev 500. Plenty of those on evilbay these days.

One thing you might keep in mind for your OH if you use the ribbon is how much room you have above the ribbon mic. Remember since it's a figure 8 pattern you're going to be getting the other side of that mic and if it's right close to a ceiling it might not sound very good. Just thought I'd toss tha...

The first obvious suggestion is to see if you can return it to the ebayer you bought it from for a refund....If that can't happen then send it to Tascam or at least call their service department and talk to someone. It may turn out to be an easy fix. Good luck. I have one and love it.

If I'm just mixing something for myself then I usually have a shelf on both ends doing some cutting or trimming. It just seems to me that most of the stuff I hear a lot of times sounds so over hyped on both the highs and lows that it really interferes with my listening. I think that's more of a pers...

Tell me clients wouldn't be impressed if you had a rack full of that "shadowy past" stuff in your studio. I'm gonna run your vocals through this block charger rectifier here but don't tell anyone that this is what we used.....

What you got there is an all purpose dynamic mic. They don't make matched pairs of those. It's pretty much an EV version of a Shure 57. I used to have one several years ago. Not bad. Stick it in front of an electric guitar amp or someone's mouth and see what you get.

Got Meek? And ever since I got some Yamaha PM1K mic pres and the Scully 280 mic pres I've been pretty happy with my color selection. Same is true with the Syteks. Even transparent is a color to choose for recording. The combination of my mics and just those mic pres is enough to keep me occupied.

R.I.P. Davy Jones

http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/29/showbiz/obit-davy-jones/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Although I was just a couple years too young to have watched The Monkees when they were on prime time, they were a few years later part of my Saturday morning routine. Had some of their records on 45 and ever since I got my I...

It's all good man.....Use whatever you can get your hands on and learn everything about it and how to manipulate it with your sounds. Use it til it falls apart then go buy something else. There's always going to be industry buzz words tossed around. If it sounds right to you and your client then you...
