Re: Future Austin Intern
Thanks to all of you for an interesting, eye-opening thread. I'm looking for assistant/intern opportunities in Austin also. Seems like the options are limited. I keep wondering if I should split and head to CA or Seattle...

Re: Presonus ACP-8 Problems--be aware
This is probably just bad luck, but of the three pieces of broken recording gear here at the radio station, two are Presonus, and the third is an Eventide H-610 harmonizer... but the Eventide is forgiven because it's probably 20 years old...

Re: Recording a footstomp?
I had a discussion with Scott H. Biram about getting the footstomp sound. This guy's a one-man band with an unbelievable repertoire of old blues and rockablilly tunes. He came to the studio with this electronic thing called the 'Porch Board'. It was wrapped completely in duct tape and I couldn't tel...

I've eyeballed the echolette in the past but they seem to have an unusual audio connector. DIN or something. Was yours simple to hook up?

Re: Razor edits?
Wow! Ha! Thanks for the answers... The 'window edit' must be the most insane, last-ditch thing you could do to a master tape!
Not that this is something I need to do right now. I'm tracking basics on 4 track 1/4" and dumping to protools, whereupon the slicing and shuffling commences.

Razor edits?
What kind of stuff can you do with a razor blade and a multitrack tape? I can picture splicing and looping sections of a song... but I just read another post about "spending 3 hours looking through a trash can for a single word", or something to that effect. How do you razor edit a single track on a...

Re: What did you work on tonight?
Recorded a hip hop demo. This guy spit some 'East coast battle raps' all over my TapeOp tube mic. (with pop screen). Whenever I work with rappers, a line from Ill Communication comes to mind. "strictly handheld is the style that goes never rock the mic with the pantyhose" he he he... our pop screen ...

how is a mic's absolute polarity defined?
That is, what is the convention for mic polarity? All professional mics are in-phase with each other, right? Or otherwise there would be more polarity switches on consoles..? Here's my guess. If a wave is deflecting the mic diaphragm inward, does it create a positive voltage? And if the diaphragm mo...

Re: what is this sound?
Radel Electronics of India makes a bunch of unconventional electronic instruments, like the Saarang electronic tambura, drone boxes, and sampled tabla drum machines. I bought some stuff through their website and found it to be pretty cool. The Taalmala tabla drum syncs up with the Sunadamala (a melo...

Re: tech-y stuff.
Forrest Mims III taught me most of what I know about circuitry. His books are great. He's the best electronics tutor I've ever had! :worthy: Check out his books that are (were?) distributed by Radio Shack. It's like sitting down with a buddy & a piece of scrap paper for a personal explaination. No m...

Re: Whoohoo! I must gloat about my latest ebay score.
Tapco 4400... $75 on eBay. The graphic EQ on the Tapco 4400 spring reverb is probably its best virtue, other than that it takes up a lot of real estate in your rack (4 spaces?) and its S/N is sort of poor. It has a rather sproingy tone, but I like that and exploit it by running a compressor on the o...
