Looking for advice on a DSP card. UAD vs Powercore
I am an enthusiast with a decent PC. My interface is a TASCAM US428 and I use Cubase SX 1.1 and Reason 2.0. I record rock/metal and often use reason to replace drum tracks. I generally bounce Reason stuff down to audio tracks when I mix. Most of my stuff is less than 24 tracks. I am looking to buy a...

I don't have anything else to add to the posts as far as get to know your monitors, it's personal prefference, NS10's don't really sound great, etc...it's all true and been explained well enough by others :) As far as my personnal prefference, I have a set of Mackie HR824's and for the price they pr...

Re:I Love It Loud Drum Sound
I don't know , but I would also guess that it is a fair dose of room mics, probably compressed a fair amount. It kind of has the same vibe as Rock Candy from Montrose, (or Bohnam of course) You might experiment with putting a gate on the room mics or small reflective room reverb, smash it in the com...

Where can I find some short monitor stands
I am looking for monitor stands that can go as low as 24 inches. The closest thing I have found is 36 inches. Anybody seen a pair of these? I have a ledge on the wall where my desk is located, if I can get a pair of short stands I can put the monitors on the stands, on the ledge. Otherwise I will lo...

Re: 48KHz vs. 44KHz
Yeah old debate. My limited experience, I did a session at 96/24 and it sounded great. I downsampled and I swear I lost some sweetness in the highend, this may be doe to the converters or the logarithm or whatever and I am sure they are not all created equal. So much stuff has come out at 44.1/16 th...

Re: RAM Allocation. How to set up my RAM
Well, you can try fixing your page file to a set size, of double your RAM. Or you can try disabeling the Page File all together (Proceed at your own risk, I have done it with no problem, but I make no warranty ;). Fixing the page file was a Win 9x trick that keeps the hard drive from constantly re-s...

I was really hoping to learn this software as it is affordable and cross platform and that makes me happy. I have been trying to use Reason and ReWire and have come to a stumbling block. I generaly use Reason as a drum machine, and have individual outs for all of the drums, including seperate hat an...

Re: Silent, and I mean silent computer power supply.
The problem is for a lot of us home recordists is getting the computer out of the room with the mics (which are usually the same) Getting the computer far away from the monitor and peripherals is a bit more chalenging then moving a tape machine, monitor extension cables often degrade the picture, an...

Re: mac mini? hmmmmmmm.....
If you are going to spend 900 bucks on this box, you can afford a more robust machine, that will have more to offer in the long run. That is all I am saying. I can run all these apps on my powerbook but I wouldn't buy a powerbook for handling my recording duties. Personally, if I have to go on the c...

Re: problem with LCD display
Can you try switching to your old monitor? Same session same setup, everything the same, switch monitors and see if it really has something to do with the monitor. Does your DAW software have a CPU usage meter or something that tells you how hard you are taxing the system? It could be that the sessi...

Re: mac mini? hmmmmmmm.....
I have never performed a hardware upgrade on a Mac, with PC's upgrading the processor is a simple chore that doesn't effect the opperating system. (Unless you need a new MOBO, but that is a different story and REALLY effects the OS) If you are buying a computer and your main purpose is audio, deskto...

Re: better cd burning for macs?
This may not really be the answer you are looking for, but what I was thinking was cut the piece up and save the regions as individual files, someone my come back to do a best of compilation or who knows what and then you would have all of the songs as individual files anyway...just a thought. Toast...

Re: Optimizing hard disc for recording; where to start?
The tascam guide is a good one. Seperate drive for audio will help a lot. One of the things in the guide talks about the swap file on the pc, if you have enough ram you can disable it then everything gets put into ram. Your mileage may vary and some apps will be ok with it. I found it made my games ...
